I think that it would be cool to go from camper to counselor. You get to run sims and you would remember what it was like when you were a camper to make it better for your team.

I was thinking the same thing. A counselor who has been through the progrtam themselves as a camper would beable to draw on his experiance as a camper to help improve the experiance for his team.

I haven't...and I'm getting nervous!

I submitted my application a bit later than they wanted, so I'm worried they've already made their decisions and/or will hold the tardiness of my application against me.

I would imagine they'd have to inform people soon though, if they haven't already (and I like to think they haven't...)

Don't worry, Vincent. I spoke to a friend (who will also be a returning counselor) who called the Space and Rocket Center a couple of weeks ago - she was told that they were waiting to determine how many people they could hire before making final decisions. She also sent her application in late, and was told that it wouldn't be held against her.

I just wanted to confirm with some other applicants. I haven't heard anything, and neither has the friend who called, or another girl from my College...

The first time I applied, I didn't find out until mid- to late-April. If it gets to be May, I'll start getting more nervous.

Sorry about your job Vince, that stinks. They should be throwing money at you for keeping peoples' interest in camp by creating this site.

Thanks for the condolence.

Forget about throwing money at me though. Just telling me that they weren't going to hire any new people for the summer a month ago would have been all I would have wanted!

I put a fair amount of work into it (when I had a huge amount of school work to deal with as well), as did my professors who wrote my recommendations.

Oh well. At least they'll have my application on file, though it sounded as if they weren't even sure they'd be having a training session next spring either, instructing me to instead consider employment there starting with the Winter training session.

Well Vincent i'm sorry you didn't get the job. But if you could apply in January/February that would get you in for the spring possibly then you could stay on for summer. Ofcourse that depends on how it would work out with school and anything else going on but atleast there is hope.

awh that's too bad about the counselor job for this summer vincent.
heyhey, if you do end up becoming a counselor for next spring maybe ill see you there. i really want to go back, to asa. no, i AM going back. i just dont know if it will be next spring or the one after when im a freshie in college..ill still be 18 then so i can do it still. actually, one of my counselors said that as long as you register when you're 18 you can go..like i registered next year sometime when im 18 for a session the following summer..of 2005..when im 19 you can still go to asa..she said people have done that before. so that gives me more chances lol. but hopefully ill be able to go next year..we'll see what school and everything is like though.
i could always go to adult asa too though.
that really sux that they didnt say that they wouldnt be taking any new people before you did all the work to apply though.

Well i went to ASA when i was 19 but i did register when i was 18. But i also know someone who went to Space Academy level 2 well into her 20s as a youth she just lied about her age so they obviously werent paying too much attention to the name i guess because she got away with it atleast twice.

Yeah, I got my rehire letter last week, so I'm going back. I'm sorry you didn't get it, Vincent. But Space Camp learned a valuable lesson last year, and as a result, hired a butt load of new counselors for the spring. So many, that I guess they are only able to accept rehires for the summer. Apply next year, though. You might get it!
Believe it or not, I will not be back this summer. And probably never again!

I just hope that when I apply to be a counselor they aren't still having major budgeting issues because that isn't cool at all. I will still find some way to go to camp though. I am hoping to take my cousing to PC camp when she is old enough and such.
