counselors

Post by orion8 »

Our counselors were awesome. It was there last week workin there so they let us do a lot of stupid stuff that nobody else gets to do cus there like "what can they do, fire us?" that was pretty neat. I wish i had the email so i could write them and tell them thanks for the great time we had. There were also some mean counselors that were like above our counselors (i wont mention any names) but one lady was quite rude and i didn't like her, good thing she wasn't our team counselor.

Also the counselors don't let you out of their sight. I wish they would, ya know? I was the only one to ever leave the counselor's sight cus the rude lady (mentioned above) sent me on like two errands to find other counselors cus she didn't know how to work the computer and didn't want to get up. So me an this girl snuck round to the SCUBA tank an watched our fellow teammates in the pool. uh... anyway... overall the counselors were awesome though.

My first year at camp in 91 I had some great counselors. Their names were Kenn and Page (or Kenn and Bary as we use to call them). Some of you who went to diffrent Space Camp programs through january 99 may have met Kenn. He was a counselor when I went in 91 and 93 and he was transportation director in 96 and hab director in 98. His last name was Satterfield. I ran into him on my 3 visits following the 91 trip and he so cool he actually remembered me every time. The second time I went I ran into him at dinner the first night. The third trip i saw him right after getting off the bus and the 4th time I ran into him waiting for SCUBA physicals. He was really cool and i thought it was cool he remembered me over a period of 7 years.

At Aviation Challenge I also had 2 very cool counselors. Carla (callsign Wedge) and Vincent (callsign Hoser). They let us do pretty much anything we wanted to do and hoser had some great stories from his time in the military and as a fire fighter. They gave us alot of free time to swim or play volleyball or do whatever we wanted. And they let us order pizzas on the 4th of July after we finished Escape and Evasion. Oh and at the end of the week Hoser got the whole group a set of dog tags that said "Red rippers you're the best. Aviation Challenge 1996."

At Advanced Space Academy in 98 I had one really great counselor. Red was totally awesome. He let us do just about anything we wanted. He let us order pizza twice during the week and alot of other stuff. He was the only counselor I ever had that cried when my team graduated. Our team was so close and such good friends by the end of the week most of us cried at graduation. Oh and after graduation he gave the whole team Right Stuff medals because he said we all should have gotten them not just one person.

I think the thing that makes the counselers the best is that they love thier job. I have never seen people have so much fun working!

The counsellors were definately great and they do love their jobs. I wish i could apply as a counselor but unfortunately recent medical problems limit my mobility and i wouldnt beable to do the job now. Too bad too since i now have the 2 years of college they require.

One of the best counselors there when I went was Wes. He was so much fun. We had him in the Station for of EDM and one of our hour long missions. He was so funny. I hope he's there this summer again.

Post by VansinSpace »

So this post is a few months overdue but I figured I would write anyhow. Sorry to have dissapeared from the face of the earth, but yeah, I have been busy with my new job and moving back out to California.
I hope all you guys go back to camp and visit my friends. I miss them all mucho, mucho!
If you have any questions about the madness of camp, feel free to ask. I am going to go post in PDA in a sec...just so you guys see it from our point of view...
My quick update is that I am living in Valencia, CA (near Six Flags) and I work at Northrop Grumman on the B-2 Bomber. Sounds AC-sih huh? Hopefully it will lead to bigger and better things, maybe the new Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV)...
And for you space nuts, a lot of my co-workers helped develop the shuttle. One guy that just come into my dept just left the program. I will try to keep up with this posting thing. Bye!
