Applications Coming

Post by andystroik »

Hi Everybody,

Just did some checking and with SCIVIS 2008 over the USSRC with be activating the application for the January 2009 Counselor hiring. It would normally be available today but they are updating the online application software, so they say the application should be online by this coming Friday.

If you would like to have a chance to work the space side, apply NOW!
Summer hiring is for AC and to fill the summer space side need. So January is your best shot at space side programs.

Post by Wildman914 »

I applied at the website and submitted my application.

on the spacecamp.com website it says I need two letters of recommendation and a current school transcript. do I need to gather those too and send them in now since I submitted my application? or wait untill I hear from the Center about my application? how long usually do I have to get those in after I sent my application in?

I finally got my letters of recommendation and a copy of my school transcript done and I submitted my application online a few days ago and finished the housing application so now I got to fax it all tomorrow
and wait to be called. going to be anxious untill I hear something

I talked to Charity in HR and she said they would start setting up interviews in the next two weeks or so.

I got a question about the interview I live about two hours away from the center so do they give interviews over the phone or do you have to go to the USSRC for it?

They do phone interviews atleast i know they do for people who are not close by. I would think 2 hours is far enough away for a phone interview.

Hey I got a call from Charity from HR for a interview for camp on monday with one of the program directors to just get to know me and a interview over the phone. from people who has been interviewed over the phone what kind of questions do they ask? I never done a phone interview before do they just ask the usual interview questions or do they ask some questions related to the space program? has everyone who got a interview got hired? I know I will do good on the interview but just curious and excited. Charity said since I was there before a couple times they will go over the camp experience with the kids and all on the call monday. Also do they offer a job after the interview or they will make their decision then call back?

I try not to think far in advance or anything but am just curious when is move in if hired? I know Training starts the 7th of Janurary.
thanks for the help again I hope i am not asking too many questions.

Good luck andy and everyone else applying.

I wish i could help you on this but when i was hired it was last minute they waited very late last summer to hire so i'm not a good example. I would think though its more general interview questions. Mine i was hired that day but again they were in a time crunch i know others who had to wait for an answer.

interview

Post by andystroik »

The phone based interviews are just like an in person except done over the phone.

I recommend you just find a private place and be yourself.

Phone Interview

Post by kap »

I had a phone interview with them last winter. The questions they asked were pretty basic, interests, skills and things like that. The two other questions they asked were about my ideas on working at a camp (their looking for you to say that you like kids and think having them learn new things is important) and the other question was about a hobbie I had and where I would find information about it if I had a question, I guess here they were looking to see how I would go about handling a question from a camper that I did not know the answer to. It was fairly basic stuff in the interview, I did mine in a private room and walked around during the entire thing (I'm not much for sitting still). My interview was with Charity and then Sam Peterson, the head of the Space Camp side. Bascially if you are really passionate about working there and especially if you have been a camper or wanted to be a camper, that enthusiasm will show and you will do fine. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Good Luck!!!

thanks guys! My interview went pretty good for a first time phone interview. I think it was with Sam peterson. I beleive I saw her at camp.
but she mostly just confirmed my info and told me about the dress code and asked if I had any problems adhereing to it and I said no. then asked about my current job what I liked most and least about it. then the camp questions. like dealing with a home sick child and a kid getting sick. then asked about my hobbies of course I mentioned my lifelong passion for space. then she said they had other applicants to consider and they would contact me in the next two weeks for either another interview or by mail about getting hired. so I think I have a shot. I tried to stress my devotion for the job.
