Turkey... whaa?

Post by CastAway »

I could have sworn I was informed last year that you only needed one year of college to work at Turkey... it was my plan all along to work there this summer and then try to work in Alabama the next summer! Am I crazy and making stuff up, or did I just somehow manage to miss this last year?
The less time spent in Orion Bay, the better.

Huntsville's policy last year was two years of college, but several people on this forum got in with just one year of college. Same with Space Camp Turkey. If you are interested, I suggest e-mailing Beth Mitchell at [email protected] and talking to her.

Even though that is one of the requirements, they look at more things then just that.

The requirements (huntsville) are person to person. Generally 2 years of college is a must, but if you have worked at a camp or somthing, 1 might get you in. Say you want to work at AC, no college is required **if** you have honorable military exprience.

I talked to Beth who does the hiring for Space Camp Turkey and although two years is preferred she suggests anyone who is interested with at least one year completed to apply.

In Houston, at the Space Educator's Conference (SEEC), they were actively recruiting among teachers. They usually are a bit older than most of the counselors at SC. So I thought that was interesting. But I have the kids (two cats and a dog). LOL! I'd be the first gramma space camp counselor. :-)

They were recuriting for the GFTSE program. http://www.gftse.org

Where schools from the US and schools from Turkey do video conferences, and become "E-Pals" through NASA's Distant Learning Program.

Give the USSRC a call. Someone there should be able to point you in the right direction. That, or visit the SCT website and send them an e-mail requesting to be a counsellor and they will direct you to the right person.
