The Insurance Industry Really Limits Male Counselors...

Post by Vincent »

So I was reading through a copy of the counselor training manual a little while back and was looking at the section on transporting sick/injured trainees...

"To operated the Center vehicle, males must be at least 25 years of age and females must be 21 years of age."

This is really unfair to any male counselors who just want to do their part in a crisis situation.  While I'm sure that, in an emergency, there'd be plenty of people around, it seems a little unfair/dangerous to limit what employees can drive someone to receive care...

...Blame it on the insurance companies, I guess!

Where I live in Canada insurance is more expensive for males than for females by almost $500 for a six month period. My brothers have to pay $1000 more insurance a year than their girlfriends and my brothers have been driving longer!

Well we males might not like to admit it but statistics show we're not better drivers. Male drivers are statisticly mor likely to get into accidents and to drice irresponsebly.

hence the rule...I'm sure their premiums would go way up if they made the age the same across the board...

yeah, i know. Memphis has some of the worst drivers! and because we are America's distribution center, we have many 18-wheeler trucks barrel through and kill people. It is ridiculous

People around here drive like maniacs too. I especially hate seeing people driving and talking on theiur cell phones. I wish Virginia would pass a law against that like some other states have.

Oh...I meant to post this earlier...

I learned that this policy is no longer in effect as the USSRC now has a different insurance carrier.

Equality for the sexes is a wonderful thing. No more do guys have to be limited just because they're guys... :D
