International Space Camp (in Huntsville in July)

Post by monkeynautt »

Has anyone ever gone to international space camp in Huntsville. They do it for ASA once a year. Last year I went the week after. I guess they have special guests during international space camp.

The week I was there with my friend (we're both from Canada) there was a girl from France and one from Japan. Also, a girl on my team was from Mexico. I think there was also someone from Spain but I can't remember.

When i was at advanced academy in 98 we also had 2 french guys on our team. This made for some verry interesting missions since neither one of them spoke English verry well.

I've Been There!!

I've only just joined up to the forum (although I've known about this great site for ages!). It's really cool that there's an ISC forum, I was one of the two official delegates from the UK for ISC 2000. In ISC week there are half Americans at ASA and half internationals, a boy and a girl (having "the right stuff") selected from each country!!

There was a slightly different programme for the internationals, including the parade of nations, extra activities and a dance under pathfinder at the end. We did get some special guests come to visit too and got given some cool free bits and bobs.

If anyone has any questions about ISC then please, please ask them!! I'd love to reminisce some more!

Oh, and for all those interested in the PDA rules at the dance, they were relaxed quite a bit, and we did (myself included) have some slow dances! Generally all the rules were a bit less strict for the internationals (hehe).

Although all 4 years i went we had people from other countries only one year that i went was an official international week, It was in July 96 abiut a month before the olympics in atlanta. Unfortunately i didnt get to see what went on much because i was over at Aviation challenge that year. I do remember hearing the olympic torch came through huntsville that week and the Space Academy level 2 program was involved with it. At Aviation challenge we only had ine international person from Spain.

I usually go to camp right after international week. This year I have to go earlier because I have to get ready for university. So this time I probably won't see as many internationals.

I have always wanted to go to the USSRC during International Camp week, but it has never fit into my schedule. I think it would be really cool to meet kids from a bunch of different countries. Although, one time when I went to camp there was a kid from Brazil on my team and another time there was a kid from Guatamala.

There were a couple of kids from Australia on my team. You probably saw them, addict. I think one of their names was Kyle.

My Bible teacher is from Australia and one of our World History/Bible teachers is from Ireland, and my band director grew up in Cameroon. Anyway, my Bible teacher is also the varsity boys basketball coach. This past season a team came from Australia they stayed with the players and the week culminated with a big game. They were all pretty cool. Now, there's rumors that one of their star players may spend his senior year in the states going to our school. We also have a bunch of foreign exchange students from Korea, and last year we had one from Germany.
