You must never forget: PACK SWEATPANTS AND SWEATSHIRTS!

Post by maverick »

To all newbies,

When I was both in AC and ASA (in Alabama), the rooms were so incredibly cold.

In ASA my teeth were chattering and my body shaking only because I did not bring sweatpants and sweatshirts. However, in AC I was prepared so I did not freeze over there.

This is the best advice you can get. If you do not have warm clothes you will FREEZE especially if you are by an air vent!!!

That does ocasionally happen. And if your lucky and your room isnt full you can always grab a pillow from another bed and use it.

This is what we did, but, as there was only one, we had to fight for it.

That does happen sometimes. At ac we were lucky and had several empty beds in our room.

That's right. The first night i was wearing only shorts no shirt and i turned into an icicle!! The next night i was wearing a shirt and was ok but the blankets are terrible. This year I may bring my own so I can stay warm. It's hard to sleep when you are freezing to death! Also, don't stay up too late or you will regret it the next day!

Also, did anyone bring a CD player? They say not to but everyone did. I think I will bring my MP3 player this time to listen to at night.

I didnt bring a cd player but i did bring a walkman for the plane. Funny thing is i never used it. I always had someone next to me on the plane who wanted to talk or one nice lady who i played poker with from Norfolk to Atlanta. No we didnt bet but i did have fun.

I never brought my disc man for the past 2 years. If I fly out of Calgary this year I probably will bring it because I'll have a three hour drive and then my flights.

Well i'm sure i carried stuff to camp that they recomend you not bring over the years. Walkmans, gameboys etc just to have something to do on the plane and waiting in the airport.

I've never found the need for my cd player... If I want music, I sing! And people usually join in(Especially in the girls showers at AC!), if it's a well-known song.
I always bring my cell-phone, though. ALWAYS. And I bring my own pillow and my own quilt. I always get an extra blanket as well, but that's to give to one of my shivering hab-mates. Always a great way to make friends, no?
And I always bring flannel PJ's and DUCT TAPE! Duct tape is THE most important thing you can have, trust me! Tape up the vents, shush an annoying person, use for rockets... indespensable during the EDMS, we even used duct-tape to duct-tape a door shut so the councilers couldn't come from Payload Deck to Mid-Deck... They had to climb out of the top hatch!

I like having a CD Player. It helps loads when the songs you like are particularly obscure, or you want to hear it and not wake up everyone in your room. Just make sure you keep track of it, and don't take it any place that might endanger it, like Area 51 (You never know what your sneaky alien captors might do with it). And speaking of music, I'm currently listening to Wishmaster (See my sig for the chorus).
Master! Apprentice!
Heartborne, 7th Seeker!
Warrior! Disciple-
In me: the Wish-Master!

I take my .mp3 its small and holds all the music i need at camp. I find it easier to sleep at camp when i have something to help me wind down after long and chaos filled days. Its also particurly handy when you need to tune out other people in your room lol......

I've never been to ac, but I have been to asa. The weather was dreary. It snowed somewhat, so I guess it was pretty cold (for me, anyway).
