Notebook?

Post by p51 »

How handy is it to have something to write on at camp? Being ex-military and having flown on all kinds of military aircraft (both current and WW2-era), I'm used to having notetaking capability at all times for any training.
I have a metal notebook (with recessed pen) I've often taken on flights over the years and was thinking of bringing it to camp, as it does fit in the leg pocket of a flightsuit...

I would bring one if I was you, if only for keeping a journal of your experiences...

I'm not sure if they still give you a logbook or "Throttle Up" manual as it was later called, but this was what you used to take notes in "back in the day".

Even with the best of intentions about keeping notes, you will be so busy and immersed into the Space Camp experience and bonding with your team-mates that you will forget all about jotting down everything you thought you would want to jot down. So you may find that you cannot or will not want to be as thorough with your notes as you planned.

At best, you may be able to find a few minutes before bed to write about the day's experience. I would highly recommend doing this if you can. I kept some semblance of a journal my four times at Camp, but they are very brief. In hindsight I wish I could have and would have written more. I would think that with the adult Camps you will have more time in the evenings to yourself so maybe you will have time for this.

This reminds me of something....

After my first two camp experiences, I went out and bought a pocket micro tape recorder in the hopes of stashing it in my pocket and recording my entire Camp experience. I bought tons of the little tapes and brought them with me to camp. This would solve the problem of not having the time or thinking to take as many notes, right??? Wrong. Once again, I got so immersed in the experience when I got there that I forgot to record anything. Oh, if I could listen to some of those priceless moments today... :D

When I went to Adult ASA one of my teammates recorded some of our missions when she was in mission control. She had a nice little digital audio recorder but the recordings were difficult to listen to. Mostly because she was only able to get what was said in mission control (couldn't tap into any of the feeds coming over the headsets) and because it barely picked up people who were more than a few feet away from her.

Neat idea but unfortunately just not terribly practical.
