Questions for before I go

Post by DanM »

I have a few questions for ASA this summer. My flight is landing in Huntsville around 3 PM, but I know that check-in is from 12-2:30 I think. My dad called them, and they said it's not a problem. How does this work?

Also, I have to bring medication (EpiPen and asthma inhaler, but no daily meds). Do I have to do something with the medical staff?

Thank You

If you arrive after registration you will be added to your team upon your arrival and after check in. Don't worry about missing anything because there is an orientation before you are broken into teams. Nothing major will happen in the first few hours of camp and it is common for kids to arrive throughout the day.

As for the meds you will have to check them into sickbay. Even if you carry them on you, you will still have to check in with the nurses.

When I was there for the Alumni camp I stored my epipen in the sickbay refrigerator. Make sure it's in the box with your prescription on it.

Note of caution: EpiPens DO NOT belong in the fridge!! They have a temperature range of 15 to ~30 degrees Celsius and refrigerators are much cooler than that (3-4C). The mechanism or medication may not work if they are too cold. Keep them on your person in an EpiPen carrier, backpack, or purse. It could take a nurse a really long time to get to Aviation Challenge should you have a reaction there and your EpiPen is way over at main campus.

As for the box, I never keep mine. Just ask the pharmacist to put the prescription label right on the plastic tube.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Have a blast!

You're right. Mine was a Lantus pen.
