A place for ACers to come and hang out after a hard day of escape-and-evade or survival training.

Hello everyone,

It's been a long time since I posted here. After a period in the hallowed halls of academia, I enlisted and I am currently in the Army (not in aviation- you need to be a warrant officer or commisioned officer to fly in the Army).

I am glad I went to AC- The PT format did not confuse me too much at Basic Training, and marching was not too difficult (we did a little Drill and Ceremonies in AC). The combat movement training helped a little (in fact I learned more patrolling tactics at AC then at Basic- due to the fact that I went during the Christmas season, and they sent us home to spend two weeks, thus my basic was out of whack) Compared to Basic Training, looking back at AC is that AC is a really really tame version of basic- or not even that. Basic was definately NOT what you might have seen on television- mine was much harder and it had no females training with us.

I hope everybody is doing well, and I will never forget my AC/ASA experience.

To answer your question- no I did not go to Fort Jackson- I went to Fort Benning ( Home of the Infantry). I am a 91W (Health Care Specialist).

So you're at Benning. You a leg?

Sir, yes I am a leg.

I went to Fort Benning more than a year ago. I am in Korea as I am writing this.

Keep the faith. I'm sure you'll get your chance. Thanks for your work over there, and I hope your OCONUS tour passes quickly.

Where in the ROK are you? If you're near Casey/Hovey go have a slaw dog, egg burger, and fish bowl for me.

Benning just ain't what it used to be. Things have gotten easier since I went through back in '97 (they added that stupide extra week of training not long after I graduated). But at least they keep the Infantry school seperate still.

coffeediver-

I am in Camp Casey.

Ft. Benning BCTB is probably easier than in 97 but it is absolutely no walk in the park, like I hear Ft. Jackson is. What I meant to say is that Grunt did PT similar to the way we did it in Basic, but much less strict. For example, if one person put his feet down during flutter kicks, the drill sergeants would say, "HIT THE TRACK GO!" Discipline was strict. After we did our first road march we got smoked for an hour, with us having to hold our rifles over our heads, and then low crawl, and stand for 15 minutes holding our rifles with our hands out. Another platoon in my company got smoked with full MOPP gear while in the barracks and at FTX (it was literally raining from the ceiling, from what I heard). Because it was Exodus cycle it kind of messed up training for us (but at least we covered CTT and bayonet training).

I'm glad I went to Ft. Benning, not the joke thats shown on the History Channel right after Lee Ermey's Mail Call.
