Adult AC - Advice Needed

Post by JennieM »

My husband's going to Adult AC this weekend. Being a Smurf, I can only prepare him to a point. Any word's of wisdom or advice I can share with him? Anything he should bring with him?

Well i don't know what all adult AC des bt just incase they do Escape and evasion i suggest knee pads, and long pants. BDU pants and top are probably best. there is alot of poison ivy out in those woods.

AC Preparation

Post by Conan »

I also suggest some sturdy hiking boots for the E & E, old dirty ones are best. Sunscreen is a must for the daytime activities and bug spray is also a good idea for the E & E. If you have a flight suit, don't expect to wear it except at graduation because it will be too hot. (Even at graduation you will roast in it, but you have to look good for the photos!!) My team had an exercise where we had to start a fire and it had rained all day! Something combustible is helpful for this. Another team burned their AC manual to get the fire started!

Well i can say alot of things have changed at AC this year so past experiance may not be real helpful here. I do agree about bug spray and sunblock defionately.
i also know we still did firebuilding with the kids unless the temp was too high. Most of this summer though it was hot flight suits were still bearable even outdoors. I wore my real nomex one a few times by choice and it was ok. The last 2 weeks i was there though we restricted wearing them to graduation as the temps were 105+ but the day i left the temp was in the upper 80s just varies every day so wearing one if desired may be manageable if wanted. Again i never got to work with adult groups this past weekend was the first ones at camp for the year other than alumni so i dont know everything they will do.

A couple of words of advice if your husband has a lecture with a counselor callsign Hoot listen to him he is not only good at what he does but he is the real deal he flew A-6 intruders in Vietnam. My guess is his counselors may be Opie, Petri, Sketch. or Stunts. There arent many AC counselors left at this point i know they are though.or were last week still. Suave may be there too not sure when he is leaving.

Who is his counselor or counselors? Aparently they arent doing there job when it comes to callsign. No Top Gun callsigns are supose to be allowed that and no counselor callsigns from the last 2 years. Each counselor is given a list of the ones off limits.

Whoops! LOL Someone dropped the ball. He said his counselor is Hawg.

Hubby's friend's callsign is "Trapper." Not sure where that one came from. Hopefully he'll call soon...hubby, that is.

He did really good today. He said that his squadron ruled the skies today and that he didn't crash or get shot down. I'm so proud of him. ;)

Someone finally got ahold of the callsign "off limits" list. LOL Hubby ended up with the callsign "Kryptonite"..."Krypto" for short. He told everyone how I used to be a counselor there and my manager gave me the call sign was "Lois Lane." He didn't want to be Superman or Clark Kent, so Krypto it was. I kinda like it. :) At least now when I try to explain certain stuff to him, he'll have a better understanding of what I'm talking about. He's ready to tackle Adult SC next. Woohoo!!! 8)

Hawg is definetely a great counselor, im glad your husband had a good time. I had Hawg when I was there for the Mach III 12 Day, and he was a blast. Hoot was a great guy to listen to, especially his stories, he told us a great one about a MiG-17 and an F-4 that was amazing.
