Returning this summer!
I just got word from HR; I've been rehired for this summer. I'm so excited; I feel like a kid again. Anyway, I'll be at Sprocket from around June 1st until the end of the first week of August.

yes, that's exactly how I remembered you
I love sims... I love the outdoors... I could live without the creatures in the lake, but I don't mind it other than that...
I miss AC. Only 40 days! Or less?

I assume when you say creatures in the lake you are referring to something other than the space camp kids who come down to use the lake for water activivities. Though when i was at AC in 96 thats what we thought of them.

LOL no offense meant guess we just thought that the lake should be for the AC people. But then up till recently before that camp kids were still going to a pool and the lake was for AC. But camp kids werent as bad as the rich kid creatures we had touring AC the last night i was there when i stayed over an extra night. They were just kind of stuck up and thought they were better than all of us made the time we had to swim that night a little less enjoyable.

I was talking about the things that come out of goose poo and lived in my shoulder for most of last summer, thanks to the lake not having enough clorine during training. The nurses insisted it wasn't ring worm, I got home and it turned out to be ringworm (which is actually a fungus).
But the kids (AC or Space Camp) are creatures too. And the dirty lake has snakes, turtles, fish, etc. in it. But I was referring to the creatures that lived on my shoulder - not the other, less bothersome ones (at least the space camp kids go home at the end of the week).

well they figured out the clorine problem quickly.
But I do't know if the lake is open yet - last year, it wasn't open until our training week, which was in mid-may... But I may be wrong (I haven't been in Huntsville since mid-March).

I don't know how they decide on when to open the lake but if its based on temp i know this spring has been unussualy warm in VA i'm guessing even more so down there so it could be.

I think it might be based on when they can hire lifeguards (who tend to be younger than counselors - usually seniors in high school, or just graduated).

I always wondered why they looked so close to my age in 96. And had some nice looking women life guards back then too.

last year, we were pretty desperate on lifeguards... So desperate, in fact, that on a couple occasions, I wound up lifeguarding for my own team because there were no lifeguards around. Of course, that was partly because as the two week team leader, we were swimming on the weekend, and had no normally scheduled lifeguards on the weekend and someone didn't show... But I digress.

Goose poo rash = swimmer's itch. We get that stuff up here in the lakes and stuff too. Some lakes it is so bad that the park rangers fire 'goose guns' (empty shells that make a loud noise) to scare the geese away from popular swim spots.
The lAC ake was open when I went in October 1999. We had the option of going to a pool or going to the lake and we chose the lake, even though the nurses advised against it. (The temperature was JUST at the lowest it was allowed to be open.) They said the water was too cold... bah... it wasn't cold at all...
Does AC go to a pool if the lake is closed? I saw pictures of some kids from AC wearing cheetos in a pool.
Even if the lake isn't open, you will have a blast at AC. Tell us all your stories when you get back.

I've only ever been to AC during the summer season (except for one month in Jan. when I was at space camp, the lake was empty, and no one was down at the lake or even up top for AC. So I have no idea. I've been making educated guesses about what I've seen as a counselor and as a camper.

I went to AC in 1998, and it was still too cold to use the lake. If I am remembering correctly, they sent us to the pool at UAH. I think that must have been the last year they did that, because when I went to ASA the following three years, we went to the Dublin Town Pool.
