AWACS anybody?

A place for ACers to come and hang out after a hard day of escape-and-evade or survival training.

AWACS anybody?

Post by alideg88 »

Hey..I haven't been to camp in over a year but was wondering if AWACS is operable yet at AC. Anybody know? How is it, if you've been?

It is not in fact operable. They're still working on getting that up and running, but mostly funding is needed before anything can happen.

From what I understand, the current undertaking is new software for the current sims - it looks like that will happen this fall(ish).

I haven't heard that they're putting in AWACS before. That'll be really cool when it happens. You really do learn something new every day.

It's more like a pipe dream than an actual reality... I've seen the plans for it, most people know where the shell is, but the computers and the software necessary to run it all aren't in the budget - in a couple years, maybe.

At least they're willing to think about it. I'm sure theres a lot of plans that are thought of but never written down or given any consideration. I hope it works out though. That would have been really cool to have when i went to AC.

there are so many things that are in the works or that are dreams that it's ridiculous. Unfortunately, AC tends to be the red-headed step-child of Sprocket.

kinda like when i was there as a camper in 99 or 00, I was told "when you come back next year, there will be a building instead of the bubble." I was there just this last summer as a counselor, and the bubble hasn't gone anywhere. It's just dirtier.

we were talking about painting the trailers last year. The problem is convincing sprocket to pay people to do stuff - they had counselors down at AC fixing it up last summer.

As I like to say, AC's motto should be "We make do with nothing." We're given very little, but we make it awesome anyway because we have fun with it and we care.

AWACS- Airborne Warning And Control System... they kinda are the eyes from the air and see over planes... I remember we had a mission where we had to escort an AWACS plane... we sucked at it... they don't go 500knots like us I guess, lol... Oopsies.. Can still hear Beaver coming over the radio... haha.

I think I remember that mission... is that the one where you have to say inside a certain area or you get shot at? I think we sucked at that one too.

HAHA. Yeah, we got shot at... A LOT. They all told me what a great pilot this guy was and as it later turned out he wasn't really good at anything but taking off.

Haha. Yeah. We always got shot at... usually friendly fire at the beginning of the missions, lol. I was always a RIO, cuz well... I suck compared to everyone else. :) I can take off, fly in the air... and the landing I usually get told to run into mountains cuz I can't do it... But yeah... we got hit by lotsa SAMs and stuff in the AWACS mission... oopsies. And then the bad people... i dunno.. Black Knights? Can't remember came after us. Oopsies. But Christmas Camp the missions always turned interesting. I wanna go BACK! They should have a weeklong adult session at Christmas time. :D
