Hallowe'en

Post by SpaceCanada »

Did anyone else still notice the high number of little astronauts coming to their door this Hallowe'en? I saw at least six, one even had a drawn-on moustache, which made me smile. Here's hoping the trend continues. (We had more astronauts than Princess Elsas, which surprised me a bit - I thought for sure every third or fourth kid would be Elsa this year.)

Best moment this Hallowe'en: Our firefighters and paramedics drive their trucks and ambulances around town to hand out candy. They stopped to hand out candy to a little kid dressed as a frefighter and the smile on that kid's face was priceless.

Must be a Canadian thing. We don't get hardly any kids because everyone on my street has their lights out so nobody much ever turns down my street. We've had just 2 kids ring the doorbell one year.
So, we went to a friend's house where most of the halloween traffic goes in my town. I bought several pizzas, went directly there after work and my wife brought our pup along. They had some other friends over and we had a party and traded off handing out candy.
Saw one kid in an astronaut get up. I made sure he got one of the big candy bars. When he noticed how I was dressed, he understood why:

Yes, I went to work like this on Friday, this isn't a SC suit, either. Made for a lot of questions at the pizza place!
And as for the 'Frozen' characters, I saw plenty of the store costumes on little girls, but a downright scary amount of pre-teens (and teens) in very elaborate costumes for either of the girl characters, many of them very well done.

I had my fair share of Elsas, more TMNTs and one Emmet who I originally mistook for a construction worker until I saw the Piece of Resistance on his back, but no astronauts.

I wore my flight suit to hand out candy at the house and had one young teen (escorting youngsters) gawk a bit at my outfit and ask if it was really real and if I really worked for NASA (we have a lot of military aviation in the area so it's not a huge stretch for someone not old enough to drive yet). I explained that, sadly, no. But I had been to Space Camp a couple of times and it was pretty much the coolest thing ever. His group did get extra candy.
