Star Wars is 30 today. I'm going to watch them all this weekend to celebrate.

I will have to remind my husband, the Star Wars fan, so he can have his own little Star Wars movie marathon party on Saturday and Sunday while I am out of the house. He even has the two Star Wars cookbooks he can use that day to cook me food. Ha!

Yeah, for some of the youngsters, apparently Star Wars (at least the original trilogy) didn't have quite the life changing effect that it did for us olderish people.

I volunteer with high school kids at my church and am continually amazed by how much our pop culture references differ (never, ever try playing Catch Phrase on the history or entertainment categories without someone within at least 10 years of your age on your team...it will be terribly frustrating.)

Luke: "He told me enough! He told me you killed him!"
Darth Vader: "No, I am your father."

Boy, the youngsters sure did miss out!

I actually feel like I'm the only person in my school who has never seen all of the star wars movies, except for most of the girls, and a few of my friends, who have never seen ANY star wars. I can't believe I saw alll of those parodies without seeing the original, like store wars,

Cuke Skywalker: He told me enough, you killed him

Darth Tader: No, I am your father

Cuke: But that's really impossible!

Well, think about, his dad is a patatoe, and he's a cucumbe 8O ?

BUt I still like star trek better.

Star Wars and Star Trek are separate, and a favorite does not have to be chosen. Period. At least, that's my opinion.

The Star Wars Robot Chicken special premieres this weekend!

Me too, Dan. Esp. Next Gen. I didn't like DS9 when it came out but I enjoy it sometimes now in syndication. I also liked Voyager and Trek Classic. I even liked Enterprise. I esp. liked the theme with the collage of past (and presumably future) space missions. But I wondered if, since I liked it, that they didn't hit their demographic very well. A friend of mine (same age roughly) and I liked it, but I read very bad reviews of it, and lots of people did not like the dog. I loved the dog. So I thought the dog was not written for 20 something guys.
BTW, the theme and video are here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUmO-ELaR_o

I still like Next Gen best and think the writing and acting was mostly pretty topnotch with folks like Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, and LeVar Burton.

Funny thing. I went to a space conference and they invited Rodenberry who couldn't come. So they sent the guy that played Riker. Anyway Riker read Rodenberry's keynote. And against a lot of serious space folks wishes, they had a private session with Riker answering questions about Star trek. At one point Riker said that he really did play the trombone. And I said in a very loud voice, "Well don't give up your day job." There was an immediate roar of laughter, since trekkers all knew that was a line from an episode and it involved the trombone! :-)
