Its 'dangerously' cold in Michigan right now. We're not supposed to let our old people out. :lol:

Hmmm. I would advise that you let your old people out but only with supervision... and hot chocolate.

Oooh... we are getting snow today! It's the first snowy day this entire winter. Pathetic really... I'm getting all excited over 1 - 2 centimetres of snow, most of which will melt tomorrow... sad...

We had our ONE cold day too... It went to -40 degrees last week for one day. The rest of the week was hovering around the freezing mark. This winter has been so odd... I want the real winter to come back... I want to make snowmen in my back yard...

<sigh>

Not that I can really complain though. Our winter has been so mild and freakishly warm this year. I have been outside more than usual for this time of year, which is always nice.

Our winter has been very mild except for these bursts of insane cold. Actually, its not that cold but it feels that way since its been so mild. The Earth is toying with my head again. We keep having surprise snowstorms too except that they accumulate and then i have to plow my way to class in the morning. :lol:

Hurrah!!! We got all the snow that didn't fall in winter, all on one day - it was great! At 35 cm (14"), it was knee-deep for me. It is a little late in the year for such a big snowfall here, but I'll still welcome it.

After digging out our driveway, a daunting task, we managed to drive a whole 5 metres (5 yards) before getting stuck! Oh, good times... My dad drove across town (only 7 km/5 mi) to come rescue my poor car. He gave us some metal treads that we can use whenever we get stuck. Hurrah. Those metal treads have come in handy this weekend, helping our neighbours with their stuck trucks and cars too!

Now, the best part about the snow, of course, is sledding! Our friends invited us out to a big hill where we sledded until our faces hurt from the snow spray and we were too tired to climb the hill again. (It's a hill fit for skiing, with an impressive slope, and height - perfect for sledding.) It was a long walk home in the snow, but we had a lot of fun and slept well that night...

Hurrah for snow!

I hope everyone else is having fun with whatever is left of winter!

Isn't today the first day of spring? I think 11 degrees is a fine temperature for the first day of spring!

I hiked about 15 miles of the Appalachian Trail this past weekend and it snowed! I have never been so cold in my entire life. Sleeping on the ground when it is 20 degrees outside is not a good idea.
Silver lining: I burned some major calories shivering :D

Believe it or not, tenting in the snow is actually quite warm because the snow acts as an insulator... but you do have to be prepared with a warm sleeping bag and flannel pyjamas. :-)

it would have been okay if my thermarest hadn't popped. I have an extremely warm REI sleeping bag, but if you are sleeping directly on the ground it doesn't help much.

Wow, I have never heard of a thermorest popping! Nothing a little duct tape couldn't fix. ;-)

Sorry to hear you had to sleep on the ground in the cold - how miserable!

well it didn't exactly pop... I think it just has a leak which I will be able to patch up pretty easily.
