Errata on the New Space Camp Site

Post by Vincent »

I figured I'd start a new thread to address the many spelling and grammar errors that I've come across.

If anyone cares to add to the list, please make sure you include a link to the page that you spot an error and list the error itself.

To keep things organized, please make a new post for each page (not each error) you find errors in.

While I have no doubt all those involved in giving spacecamp.com a much needed makeover were under the gun to get it done (and thus some things slipped by under the radar), now is the time to go back and make sure the site sounds every bit as good as it looks.

I've already seen one instance of an issue being taken care of, so hopefully with a couple more sets of eyeballs looking at the site, we can find and fix everything.

Where: Space Camp Travel -- Front Page

Error(s):

"Space Camp Travel is an online resource for parents who are planning to travel to Space Camp or any other camp program with thier child...a guide to local and surrounding area hotels and bed & breakfast, ..."

Also in that paragraph "week long" should probably be "weeklong," but I suppose it could depend...

Where: Missions at Space Camp

Error(s):

"Cost included meals, lodging..."

"Spend time in top of the line simulators the trainees will learn..."
(probably should read, "Spending time in top of the line simulators, the trainees...")

Regarding the Robotics Track info, the smallest change to make it read properly should probably be to make it say, "Trainees will work in teams to design a robot. Then, using diverse components, the trainees will build..."

"you along with all of the members of your team will build and launch rocket."

"This collection is collectievly known as..."

"While at Rocket Park, be sure to check out the Saturn V Rocket. It was the rocket by which man was ablt to travel..."

Where: Missions at Space Academy

Error(s):

"Simulated missions to a space station and crew rotation highlights the week" (that 's' shouldn't be there).

There's also the same problem with the Robotics Track description here as in the post above.

From my knowledge of the (Canadian) English language, "week long" becomes "week-long" (hyphenated) when used in the context on the website. I guess it's a term that could be written many ways.

Where: http://www.spacecamp.com/camponline/space_checkin.jsp

What is written:
Bed sheets and blankets, pillow and pillowcases, trainees should bring their own Toiletries for length of their stay at camp.

Should be:
Bed sheets, blankets, pillows, and pillowcases will be provided. Trainees should bring their own toiletries to use for the length of their stay at camp.

Anything Else:
I like the new loading screen and animations on the main page as it loads. I also like the quick links/miniature menus off the program buttons. It's looking good webmasters, keep up the great work!

"Who" must be a real keener, because your problem has already been corrected. USSRC.com now directs you to the new USSRC website. :D

Speaking of alternate URL's, I have another one that links to an old version of the Space Camp website:

http://www2.spacecamp.com

Although, for all the AC people out there, they do have a link with all the aviation patches on it:

The link for MOCR goes to the page with six images, none of which is MOCR. People who have never been to camp may not have a clue what MOCR is other than a four-letter acronym.

I do not know how this could be fixed, other than making an additional image on the image page. Unfortunately, this would throw out the symmetry on the image page. I'll leave it to you 'Who' and your web guru group to figure out.

Too funny... Looking at the 'Dates and Rates' page for ASA there are two "test camps". While I'd love to figure out what a 'test camp' is, I'm more interested in the 'test pilot' track and the cost of camp being a mere $1.00!! (Sign me up!)

yeah, they do that every once in a while.
you can't register for it though. sad to say.
wouldn't that be cool though?
ohhh! publicity idea: do a dollar day. where for that day you can sign up for a max of two camps for a dollar. lol, yes, again, i know, wishful thinking!

Where: Aviation Challenge Index

Error: The bottom menu has some problems. The bar to separate "Dates and Rates" and "Aviation Programs" is not where it should be, it is in the row above. Also, when you put your mouse over these two areas, you get a magnified view that is just plain weird. Lastly, the image to the right of the menu is the same as the image ont he left. It should be the continuation of the green army people image to the right.

I do not know if this is the way it always was, and it could be my computer, but if it is a problem, I thought you would want to know.
