Joel is GONE!

Post by spacecampaddict28 »

I was talking to Smiley and he just told me Joel has left and he has already been replaced! Now what am I supposed to do? Who (besides Brent, of course) is going to make constant fun of me? Who is gonna trip me when I try to get an award? How can someone really replace that slightly scary guy?

:( I feel without....

I am glad to know that it is not just me. That guy has been making fun of me since I can remember. He is kinda like Space Camp legend I guess. Well, whatever the case may be, he is a really cool guy. I hope he doesn't scare off all the little kids that he is teaching in TN. Joel as a teacher is kinda scary, but kinda cool at the same time.

Wow. That guy really was an institution all his own!

He was there for most, if not all, of the camp sessions I attended.

He wasn't the nicest guy at camp, he wasn't the meanest guy...he was just...well, Joel.

I don't think you can define Joel and nice or mean or anything. He is kinda like Smiley, his own special person. The guy really was cool though even though he was incredibly out there. I just wish that I could have said something like thanks. I can't believe I said that. He was the guy that tried to trip me on the way to get my Right Stuff award. Oh well...

TN!!! I remember him there when i went to Space Camp years ago and last years ASA... I remember especially the PDA lecture i missed because of a late airflight but I was told that "we're not here to repopulate the world, just to have a good time at space camp!!!" well lol i had an excuse... i wasn't there :P so who replaced him? anyone we know? does he even have contact info? or is he just another annonomous teacher in TN... where in TN... ok... i don't know why i have this sudden fascination with him right now so ill shut up now... goodbye...

I don't know where in TN but apparently they knew for quite some time that he was leaving. I was told 6 months. His little description thingy said he was going to be a teacher....it was probably time he left. I always ask everytime I go if Joel is still there and now I need to think of some other question to ask.

I can't believe Joel left! Despite my on going passionate love affair with space camp (is that allowed? I dunno, sounds like it could involve some PDA), huntsville won't be the same without him!

Since you've already said everything about Joel that I would have said, I'll say this: Hopefully his replacement will be OK. Sara's got work to do now! There is an employee she doesn't know!

Don't you worry. I will find out who they are and make sure I know them right away. I mean yeah come on. I don't know, however, if you can replace THE JOEL WALSH!

Well in theory they will be back at the end of the summer but who knows. It has always been like that. People come and people leave at Space Camp. Now it is just those people that have been around a while that are leaving.

And it isn't like Tony and Nat have left Space Camp, they just left AL. Though we still may not see them for a while, it isn't like they have completely moved on.

It's still sad. I hope they come back to camp. It won't be the same without them.

The plan is that they come back at the end of the summer, but as with anyone working at camp, you never know. I hope they are having lots of fun though and I hope that Joel doesn't scare too many of the kids that he's gonna teach. I think he would be a good teacher, but the idea is still scary.

Well he was so good with the kids at Camp and everyone seemed to like him including me. I mean if people still like you when you are mean and trip them and put stuff in their food, then you've got it going on. He was pretty darn cool.

I think he'll be an ok teacher, I mean he put up with sooooo many of us (including Sara for 7 trips), not to mention all of the little kids and the wierd jr. high kids he's got the patience thing down pat.

True, he has a lot of experience with kids. When you're a teacher, you only have to put up with them a few hours a day, 5 days a week, several months a year. With camp, he'd have to deal with bed wetting, home sickness, kids getting lost, kids with plane problems, etc. This will be like a vacaton for him.
