Wow i just looked at the price and thats a great deal. Just out of curiosity i have a question about Volunteers. Does your museum have any Docents or do volunteers mainly do administrative type stuff?

It is a really awesome deal. Too bad I have already paid in full for my next trip to camp. :(

Volunteers

Well... as it has been explained to me ... We are a state agency and somewhere in the state code it states that we baically can not use volunteers in place for paid employees. The docents (in the orange flight suits) are part-time temp employees, so I can't use volunteers as docents. However, we do use our volunteers in most of the areas in the museum and camp. If you went to Advanced Academy and went diving, you more than likely were taught or went down with a volunteer. We also use volunteers in our Camper Services, Marketing and Membership offices along with some work with the Education department and Archives.

We are in the process of starting volunteer restoration program to work on exhibits that used to be on display.

I never knew that some of the people up at the UAT were just volunteers. Although I have to admit, I would love to have that job even if I didn't get paid.

Yes our Volunteers do a great job. Especially the guys (and girls) that work at the tank. I believe that we have 3 employees at the UAT (Dana, Lori and I can't think of the guy's name) and everyone else is a volunteers with some employees that sometimes come in and help too. Next time you are at camp be sure to thank the volunteers you see. They don't hear it enough.

I know one volunteer that works in the UAT. He was a former counselor of mine. In fact he was my counselor this past Christmas Camp. Stephen Davis. He is a really awesome guy and he likes to come back and play with the kids in the UAT.

Well, I must say this is a fantastic deal!

And the membership is well worth it!

The last time I visited my local science center, it saved my family and I over 30 bucks!

Between that and my trip last spring to visit camp, it's more than paid for itself.

And with this discount, it more than pays for it self immediately!

Yeah Stephen is a friend of mine. He is a great guy. Wouldn't be surprised to see him run the place one day :-)

With his lovely ego, I am sure he thinks he could take over Space Camp and the USSRC while he is at it. But he is all talk, and an awesome person to hang out with for a week.

Ok thanks for the info Wes. the docents at the space museum here are all volunteers. We mainly serve as tour guides but also do alot of other jobs around the museum. I've been doing it for 10 years now and love it.

I want to be one of the people in the orange suits one day. That will be after I am a counselor and have married an engineer from Lockheed Martin.

I always called them the orange people. When people mistook me for a counselor, I would refer them to the "orange people."
