Shuttle-Centaur leaving Sprocket

Post by Hotdog »

The Shuttle-Centaur display is no longer a part of Shuttle Park. It was packed up today and is being moved to Glenn Research Center in Ohio.

So very sad, but sharing is a good thing, so more people can appreciate it. I feel the Centaur is one of those underappreciated gems in the space collection. I admired it each and every time I walked from the museum to the habitat (and back). It will be missed.

Yep. I've been keeping an eye on pictures of the move that have been posted through the day. The same mixed feelings of good-bye, while knowing it's going to a good place at the same time.

They never actually used one of these (one was scheduled to be used on one of the flights right after STS-51L but that incident killed the whole concept), so I don't feel a crushing sense of loss here.
It's not like Pathfinder or the Saturn V was being wheeled out the gates...

I always enjoyed just standing there and looking at all the structure and wiring, space hardware fascinates me. It was one of only two vehicles on display that required an air compressor to keep them structurally sound. A little sad to hear, but oh well. I hope they put something equally cool in that spot.

Yes I always love to see this piece of history next to Hab 2. I am hopeful a replacement will be coming in the near future! Moving this vehicle where others will see what we have enjoyed for years!!! :D
