Looks like it was the Journey to Mars area that was affected.
I have always wondered, though, what would happen if there was a big fire on the training floor at SC. We all know that some of those sims only have one way in or out and that they have an awful lot of wood in their construction.

Wow, never thought that TWO fires would happen at the USSRC within a few months of each other. But at least they're still showing Star Wars as the article says.

I was in the middle of my EDM when the fire alarm went off for real in 2000. We had to evacuate the Training Center floor and head outside. It was quite hectic since I was in the airlock at the time. Turns out it was caused by an experiment being done in the Space Station module that set off the smoke detectors.

FYI, it wasn't the Journey to Mars area (aka 'Museum Mars'), it was the old Camp Mars mission area, which has not been in use for at least 3 years. It is the structure near the nose of Pathfinder, outside.

Sorry, that's what I meant but I guess I used the wrong title.
I'm just glad nobody was hurt or apparently anything irreplaceable got burned up.

Agreed! Now it'll be interesting to see what is done with the structure. There's been talk of repurposing it several years, now our hand has been forced!
