SC coins?

Post by p51 »

Here's another marketing opportunity missed at the gift shop. They really should sell some manner of coin there:

I love that SC coin, now I’m on a mission to try to find one of these, but I doubt I'll find one. Apparently the trainers get them but very little of that stuff ever get out into the collector market...

I agree for sure. The back of the coin is posted outside of the building at Space Camp & would sell. I would love to have one of these!!

I didn't know space camp had ever done one for its crew trainers i have an AC one from when i worked there. The hall of Fame has also given out a coin the last several years to those who attend which i have the ones for the years i attended.

I would say it's odd, then, that they never turn up on ePay. But really, anyone given one of these would almost certainly be a SC fan, and therefore unlikely to sell theirs...

Here's a quick shot of the challenge coin presented at the top of this thread, the "Alumni" challenge coins for Space Camp/Aviation Challenge and the medals for the Hall of Fame classes for 2010 through 2012.

Seriously, there's no reason why they shouldn't give one of these to everyone who graduates from Camp...

Well, traditionally challenge coins aren't given to everyone. Everyone who graduates from Space Camp earns their wings.

I have been to all of the Hall Of Fame ceremonies except for one. They are great and as an alumni I strongly suggest you attend as well! The event is usually held in the Davidson Center underneath the Saturn V. Dinner is served and there is typically a special guest speaker (William Shatner emcee'd the first Hall of Fame and 25th Anniversary party). The new Hall of Fame members are introduced and they speak for a bit. And there may be other activities as well, depending on the year. We are expecting big things this year after not having an event last year. You should definately plan on coming down! Most of the Hall of Famers will be there as well as many members of this forum. It's a great reunion!

The SC Challenge Coins are given to a select few of the crew trainers, for certain awards and such. I got mine for getting Crew Trainer of the Month.

Like the CT wings, they're one of the "cool" items that seem like they should be given to the trainees too (or in place of certain things that they already get).

I kinda like the crew trainers getting flashier wings, it makes sense, given the training we have to go through. It's a badge of honor. And the challenge coin, being even more rare just makes getting one feel that much more special. Really boosted my morale getting it.

I haven't ever seen anything like it before. Does anyone know about it?

It's just what it sounds like. In 1995, if you had previously been to a Space Camp program, you were given this during graduation.

There are several different "Returning Trainee" awards that were given out. That coin in 1995, a different one in 1996, and a patch was given out sometime in the +/- 1992 time frame.

I was a returning attendee in 1994 when I attended the Parent/Child program and again in 1996 when I went to the 8-day Adult Advanced Academy. I was not given a coin on either of those visits. Were they only for the kids?

One thing I've learned about SC, things change quickly and often.
It's almost as if an experience can vary wildly from week to week, and I'm not talking about comparing the people you're there with.

I am going to guess that it's a returning trainee medal, but I could be wrong?
