Here's the logo from the printed program book:

I think it holds more weight than the new one, even if the shuttle is still involved. Rovers and Canadarm2 could make a nice design.

(Despite the "Counselor" under my user name, this is unofficial commentary. I had nothing to do with the logo change, in fact, the change was decided on before I started.)

If I had to venture a guess: it's because the shuttle program has ended, therefore making the logo "dated"

I had a few trainees this weekend in a family program team that knew almost nothing of the shuttle program, because they were 3 and 4 years old when it ended.

The "aquanaut" as someone else called it, is a little more universal. No matter what direction space travel takes us, a person in a space suit will always be recognizable.

(This ends this unofficial, in no way endorsed by Space Camp management commentary)

Has anyone else noticed the new items in the gift shop on the SC website lately? Several new items, they all have the original SC logo on them.
Perhaps the fallout on the potential new logo made them change their minds?

Other than the lack of a long sleeved t-shirt for women (some of us live in cold places), these look great! I'm happy to see the original logo as well. I'll be saving my pennies* so I can buy a few items whilst in Huntsville this autumn. Thanks for the heads up.

* Canada doesn't use 1 cent coins any more, and saving loonies probably sounds weird for the Americans around here.

Don't get your hopes up! Gift shop items are designed and ordered many months in advance. It could be next year before we start seeing the aquaman logo on for-sale merchandise. Meanwhile, campers are already being issued shirts with the aquaman logo on them. It's coming

Dang, sorry to hear that. I was already thinking of bringing my SA t-shirt (with the original logo) from last year when I show up in September, I'm for sure gonna do that now.

I am happy I was able to get some shirts in January with the orbiter logo. I hope that some of these shirts will still be around in October, but I won't get too excited yet. Oh well. C'est la vie!

I meant to take a pic when I was down there for Skylab. It looked like the ringer shirts from the late 80s, but with the logo AS BIG AS THEY COULD POSSIBLY PRINT THEM on the front. It was very "in-your-face" and looked slapped on, as if no one put any thought into the size, placement or layout (a graphic designers' nightmare!). I'm hoping the shirts I saw being worn were just temporary until they can produce something more asthetically pleasing.

I couldn't find a picture of what I saw, but looks like they've got the logo on the red camper t-shirts.

Yick. :|
Yeah, I'm for sure taking my blue SA shirt with me when I go next time (oddly, I haven't worn it since I left Huntsville, I'm not really sure why that is).
Image
Like many people, I bought a few other shirts when I was there my first (and so far, only, until early Fall) time. I have the blue, "how did you spend your summer?" shirt and the alumni one as well. It's gonna be tough to wear what I'm calling the "Gumby logo" one when I go back this year...

Sounds like I need make run to Huntsville to get some shirts before they are gone. I wore my Space camp shirt back April 15th to the center. I did not see a lot folks wearing shirts when I was there.

Well, the "Gumby" logo is the primary one on the SC site now, so it's official...

It's on the corporate forms too. I wonder if they are changing the Advanced Space Academy logo too. Our SCUBA forms still had the old logo on them.

I just got my SC ambassador stuff yesterday and the new logo wasn't on hardly anything they sent.
I'd bet it'll soon be, "All Gumby, all the time" at Huntsville.
Why do I have a feeling that the diehards and SC fans will show up with old logo stuff whenever possible? I know for sure my SC flightsuit will be 'Gumby free'!

From what I have seen: yes. All Space-side programs will use the same logo. The ASA one says "SPACE ACADEMY" at the top, and "ADVANCED" in a smaller yellow font at the bottom.

Fortunately, I could dress for a month out of all of my old Space Academy clothing. :) I even recently bought a new royal blue coverall on ebay to supplement the pale blue one I got when I first went to Space Camp. All of them have the old logo. I will not be getting any duds with the new logo if I can help it!
