Post by Mercergl »

So I heard from a friend that they're canceling ASA 8 day next year. Can anyone confirm/explain this?

Yep sadly it's true, they only have ASA 6 day now :( I was pretty upset when i heard too, because i was going to go for 2 8 day sessions next year...i'm going for 2 6 day sessions instead, but still, i don't think 6 days is long enough, i wish they'd have at least kept 8 day since they cancelled 12 day. Oh well :(

For the most part, I would assume it comes down to two factors: cost and enrollment. They can only run so many teams at one time, so to run an 8-day or 12-day team, they have to drop one or two of the 6 day teams. The 8- and 12-day programs cost more for campers in tuition, so I would imagine there was a lower turnout than hoped for. There are only so many yards you can mow to pay for camp. My bet is the longer programs just weren't economically feasible.

I can speak from experience museums and camp's are hurting right now i know we are here at Langley anyway. Our camps are considerably less expensive and enrollment is down by about half this year. The economy is hurting alot of things. The museum here just recently had to let someone go who had been working here 12 years because they couldn't afford the position anymore. My guess and it is only a guess because i have no inside info on this one thi year is its economics as gordo said.
