Hiya

Post by LaRsOnAtRiXkIx »

Hey all my fellow space campers! Oh man, I recently found this website and I think that it's great! My name is Kristina...I am 14 years old, almost 15, and I'm from Vermont. I went to Space Academy from April 1-6, 2001. I have always wanted to be an astronaut. Not too long ago I was bored online so I was surfing the web for sites about space. That is when I found the Space Camp homepage and decided I wanted to go. After begging my parents, they finally agreed that I could fly to Alabama and miss a week of school to go to Space Academy. My friend, Courtney, went with me.  I remember when we got off the plane in the Huntsville airport, it was so scarry. There were two ladys in blue flight suits looking so serious waiting for us to get off. We just burst out laughing and then went over to them. It was about 8:00pm then, we were early arrivals since we couldn't get a flight down on Sunday. We got our bags then went outside in the NICE Alabama air, it was so much warmer than what I was used to in Vermont! It didn't take too long to get to Space Camp from the airport. When we got there we saw the huge saturn five that we flew over. The lady that was driving us must have thought we were insane. Everything in Alabama was so different that what I was expecting, I mean the dirt was RED!! There weren't too many other campers there that first night so we were just all together, ASA campers, SA campers and AC campers. The next day we got into our divisions and teams. I was on the Calypso team...with 14 other campers from all over the USA. Ummmm I bet you all know how the program works...we had lotsa breifings on various things ranging from the Russian Space Program to Space Suits (or Sue-its as the guy pronounced it) we rode Space Shot, the MAT, went on the 1/6 gravity chair, and had 2 missions. In the first mission I was on Mission Control...in charge of Weather and Tracking. On the second mission I was a Payload Specialist. Both were really fun. On graduation day my team won outstanding mission and space bowl because we were so awesome. I loved my week at space camp sooooooo much! It was so much more fun than summer camp! I cried for so long once I got home because I wanted to go back so badly. I turn 15 in June so sometime after that I really want to go to Advanced Space Academy. Odds are that I will go next spring. Ok I think that I babbled on enough now...I just miss Space Camp and I'm happy I found a place where I can talk to other people who miss it!!!!! Hope to talk to Y'ALL (Alabama word :)) Later!
