4th of July at ASA

Post by Boomerang »

Well since we seem to need some new topicsi thought i'd bring up what it was like to be at ASA on the 4th of July and i'll post a similar thing in the Barracks as well. Really the day at ASA wasnt any diffrent then most at ASA that year. It was definately hot and we spent alot of time that day inside. It 2 days before the end of our session that year and still a day before the EDM. on the 4th we had our last 1 hour mission, And we decided who was going to do what for the EDM. The only thing special we did that day was We had water mellon in the afternoon over at the picnis tables on the side of the museum next to the walkway between pathfinder and the rocket park. I don't think the french guys really knew why we were celebrating but they still had a good time. That night our counselor also let us order pizzas for after the nights last lecture. I even remember what the lecture was. We had our astronomy lecture that night although i wouldnt really call it a lecture. We got to go outside and use the camps telescope to look at the moon. The rest odf the time when we werent using it we just sat on the grass near the trailer class rooms and talked and had fun.So really it was just a normal day overall with a few extras. But like any day at ASA it was great.

I went over the 4th this year, 2006, and it wasn't that different, we didn't do anything different, except the dining room thing was decorated in the kitchen for the 4th. Other than that it was completely normal. They didn't feel like doing too much for it i guess.

We also watched the sts121's launch, but that was about it.

I was at 8 Day over the fourth...
basically, we considered sts-121's launch and our rocket launch (though most of it was boring) our fourth celebrations :P

actually, it was my second shuttle launch at camp.
I was there for STS-114 (we watched it in the IMAX :o)
and for STS-121 (we just watched it on the TV near the mission center)

but yeah, it's fun. we had a mission during STS-121, so it was kind of funny to watch them do exactly what we just did :D

I got to see one shuttle launch while at camp don't remember the flight number but it was the Spacelab D-2 mission in april 1993. Back in those days there was a multi axis trainer where Endeavour is now or the same general area anyway righ down near the front of the training center and in those days above it was a huge TV screen so we all went down there sat on tthe steps ior bleachers or whatever you want to call them that use to be there and watched the launch.

It was neat, we got to just sit there for 15 minutes to watch the shuttle launch, while eating ice creams from the cooler, tath was awesome, our counsilor let us do that, it was great. It was fun just sitting there, we were supposed to do mission training or something i believe, we took 15 minutes off, it was great lol.

We watched a launch when i was in Academy in 2000. It was really neat to compare what we were learning to what the PAO was saying about the launch.
