You Own Space Camp

Post by orion8 »

Okay, let's say for a moment that you own space camp. What would you do differently? What would you do the same? What changes would you make to the program; What would you add or take away from camp? Assume unlimited funds, for the sake of this discussion.

First, ASA would be 10 days long with a 12 or 24 hour mission! There would be more simulater time and the monorail connecting camp! There would be longer water time for ASA and ASA would have some more outside activities. The Habs would stay as they are. The UAT would be a bit bigger and you would SCUBA for a bit longer. The training floor would be bigger and the simulaters would be completely up to date. I can't think of anything else to add right now but if I think of something I'll come back.

Except for the longer camp program and scuba it sounds alot like what they had planned as part of the improvements before the financial trouble.

Well, I think I'd start by putting Space Camp in space.

What?! I did say "unlimited funds", didn't I? :D

But really, I'd start by updating the sims. It'd have a sim that made NASA jealous. I'd also change the program a bit. I'd make it 2 weeks instead of one. The program would become geared toward the older kids agegroup. The SCUBA would be just like the real UAT used by NASA, with a huge tank. I'd also add a KC-135 plane to the ASA program curriculum!! Maybe I'd put the Station on it so that you'd have zero gravity onboard. It'd make it more fun to be in there on a mission. Oh, and missions! I'd make the EDM 48 hours! You'd have to sleep on the orbiter. And use, um, its "Facilities". Maybe thats not such a great idea :? Anyway...

I'd make the Enterprise full size and make it so it could rotate 360 deg around all axes. It'd be inside a huge spherical dome like the Omnimax except all the way around it. The scenes would be projected on the dome and it'd look soooo real!! It'd vibrate during launch and (maybe) somehow pull G-forces. It'd be completely free range and all switches/buttons/hand controllers would really work. Ahhhhh... I just love dreaming...

Why don't we just make it real missions with real astronauts while we're at it. A group of campers would go up with a couple real astronauts after training!!

A. yes pressure suits would be awesome!

B. Who said these ideas couldn't come true??

C. and yes, it'd probably be easier to just shoot the kids into space!
