Records

Post by SpaceCanada »

We have all boasted about them before... how many consecutive times we have been on Space Shot, or G-Force, or how long you have been on the MAT, but does anyone know what some of thse records really are? I would be interested in finding out, most particularly the longest time someone has spent in the MAT without stopping. (Lenny never told us an exact time but he said that counsellors do some really absurd things around campus in their off time.)

So, post all your record-breaking Space Camp memories or stories here.

As for me, I went on SpaceShot 14 times in a row (without getting off) back in 1999. We were forced to get off when it came time for our next activity.

I can say for sure that Smiley has the MAT record, though I can't quite remember how long he spent on it.

I want to say it was an hour and 50-some-odd minutes, but I'm not completely sure of that.

At any rate, it's long. Perhaps Smiley could tell us the exact time (or someone could go ask him).

Basically, counselors on the mall tour had an absurd amount of freedom! And clearly some spare time! :D

Wow, I would love to stay on the MAT for that long! I would need some good Velcro to keep my feet in place though - they always fall out because my feet are so small.

Smiley, what's the record? Why would you stop anyway? Did you eventually get dizzy?

MAT Record

Post by Liberty »

Not to one up Vincent, or Smiley for that matter, but I seem to recall a former Manager and Marketing Account Representative by the name of Bart Williams riding the MAT for almost 4 hours straight. Some VIPs had shown up at the ticket desk and were supposed to get a brief run through of the museum and then head down to the TCF (I know, it's the MCC now). Bart was asked to get in the MAT and remain there until the VIPs went by. The glass palace wanted the VIPs to see the MAT in action without making it look like they were getting a special demo. Long story short, the VIPs were amazed by the museum and took their sweet time going through. Bart spun in the MAT the whole time, patiently waiting. I don't recall the exact year but I believe it was around 1994 or 1995.

That would be absolutely amazing! I wonder what one would do in the MAT for such a length of time?

I don't care if the MAT isn't supposed to make you sick... I'd be really sick after being on it for four hours!

After four hours of the MAT (or anything else at Space Camp) I would definitely be highly excited and super hungry! I'm weird in a very unique sort of way...

I wouldn't be hungry for space camp food... Yick!
But then again I'm probably one of the pickiest eaters on earth.
