ASA UAH College Credit -- Transferred Successfully? Anyone?

Post by Vincent »

Looking over the number of hours I have left to graduate, I noticed that if I could get my one hour of credit from UAH transferred in, it would save me from taking an entire class that I don't care about, leaving me better able to focus on the ones I do in what will my final semester of school this fall.

For the past month, I have been trying to get several of the assistant deans in my department to accept the credit. Thus far, the only "legitimate" reason I have been able to get as to why, for example, ice skating counts as free elective credit (no joke) but this credit does not is that "Because one is taken here and the other one is/was not" (my main argument being is that if an ice skating class counts, why doesn't this one). Further, their preoccupation that this is a "Summer Camp" and that somehow should factor in to the merit of the credit (regardless, it's just free elective) has amazed me.

I am growing quite frustrated at their resistance.

I am curious if anyone has successfully transferred this credit in and, if so, which school was it and what steps were necessary?

I am frustrated.

I managed to transfer it in- just got a transcript from UAH with credits on it, and sent it to UNCG. That's all it took for me.

I didnt bother to try because transferring credits into my school is like freaking impossible. They are completly wrong on the merit of the credit though and i think you should explain to them in some very large words how much more you know about space than they do and how much harder it was for you to learn that than to ice skate. Maybe it will work...

Same here, I didn't bother, I could tell in the first few months of going that transfering that credit was going to be heck on Earth... but yeah, now that you mention it, ice skating DOES get credit when ASA is hard to get credit for... that's... really dumb. I don't know how to get them to do it for you, but I sure hope you do!!! Good luck!

Ive gotten all 4 of my credits to transfer to my school. I just keep telling UAH to send transcripts, I never even talked to anyone at my University about it. It may just be the pollicy though, ISU accepts any credit from any school.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I wouldn't recommend it.

I could not transfer my credit because we use a different credit system up here. However, the government granted me some high school credits for my youth ASA ventures.

PS - I wish we had ice skating as free credit! Then again, our school system is different, so we were never given any opportunity for electives.

While that ice skating class was fun (I had never ice skated before), it's not the sort of thing I'm here for. So in that respect, it's a bit frustrating that I needed the credit from it to graduate.

It's even worse to think that I could go take bowling in the fall and it too would count. The whole matter is quite frustrating.

Those sound like easy courses to take. At the University of Alberta I think you can take fun courses like ice hockey and basketball for credit so we have them too!

Well, I would imagine that hockey is an entire major at a Canadian school!

I do understand what you're saying though. If for any reason in order to graduate i needed the credit form ice skating as a computer networking major i would be greatly annoyed.

Vincent!
I know the coursework is very draining, but I am happy with everything in Champaign that doesn't involve taking classes.

Though I have issues with the curriculum, it isn't the coursework that makes me dislike UIUC (though that is part of it at times). It's mostly things like this...
