I've never really considered myself a nerd. The first ime i went to space camp i was afraid i'd be on a team full of Steve Urkels. Instead i found i was on a team of kids just like myself. Normal people my age who loved space just as much as i did.

you're right... the people are not geeks yet are still very intelligent and share your interests.

I did not meet any geeks at ASA, although there were more "jock" types at AC, they were all right. I have to remark that never in one group have I seen people who actually read "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card.
One girl at ASA was really into anime, and could draw anime characters accurately.

If their was anyone who could be considered a ggek on my teams it was me since i was a virtual encyclopedia of space knowledge. But my teams always had a wide variety of people on them from all diffrent backgrounds and diffrent interests.

Another thing is, not many people in my teams knew a whole lot about space or aviation (except for the hardcore veterans). I went simply to seek adventure.

Some people on my teams had a good ackground of knowledge in space and aviation. Others didnt. I had a verry good background in space but thought i'd be totaly out of my league in aviation. Turned out i knew more about aviation than most members of the team.

well the programs do not really require any background knowledge, but, as was the case with most of my team, most people there did know quite a bit about space travel
