Fiction/Reality

Post by Drumrollz »

As camp came to a close yesterday, Jerry gave us Christmas Camp surveys, including a question that read something like "Would you like to see Space Camp go in a more fictional or a more realistic direction?".

And then, I noticed this piece of the article that Vincent linked to on the front page:
Over the last year and a half, they've talked periodically with representatives of Kensington Entertainment, a California-based group of private firms and individuals boasting experience in the motion picture industry, professional sports and the development of themed entertainment projects, including the "Star Trek" pavilion at the Las Vegas Hilton and the "Conan" and "Jurassic Park" experiences at Universal City in Hollywood.
Interesting. Are they shooting for a more futuristic, while not necessairly accurate Space Camp? Personally, I think that persuing ideas that are conceptually realistic would be a good idea. Rig up an old X-33 test model or something into the TCF?

Thoughts? [/quote]

Kensington Ent. is mainly looking to revamp the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, not Space Camp. However, I'm confident that SC will see improvements after these guys get in here.

First thought we need 100 million dollars to get them in here.. 8O

Well, I refused to do the survey for various reasons.....but I would go for realistic....when Tony and Nathalie ran our 24 hour mission this summer, it was really realistic and I loved it. I even got white booties!

Such a question was not on our survey/review form from adult 8-day, or at least I don't remember it. I would vote for a more realistic than fantasy Space Camp. Any aspect of the Space programme would make me happy - whether they bring in sme old Apollo or Gemini trainers, or make a mock-Moon surface in the AstroTrek, I'm happy! I think they are going in the right direction.

we got a survey also asking us if AC should be more realistic or more fantasy.

i wrote realistic because i dont want to go to something like star wars camp. that would be lame.

I like the idea of a combination of both, but I am going to Vegas this weekend to Star Trek The Experience! (The star trek thing that article is talking about.) I think that it needs to keep alot of the real aspects, but the idea of some futuristic things could be really fun, a little imagination never hurts anything!

Well, I wasn't at camp to take the survey, but I would've said more realistic... but also, I'd wonder what they meant by fantasy... I wouldn't have liked the Star Wars/Trek camp but at the same time, before the '60s, going to the moon was fantasy, and it happened... so "realistic fantasy", stuff that seems a little futuristic but not out of the question, that would be fine:)

Waaahhh, we didn't even get a survey at adult 3-day last fall! I would definitely go for realistic; there's enough futuristic space activities out there if one is so inclined. I like Lisa's idea to have camp have some activities based on the future goals of the real space program, though.

Sounds like you all had a great time...wish I could have been there! -C

I'll go with that view, too, the "futuristic yet feasible" one.

I agree, although I thought I saw something on the TCF that went along those lines.

I totally had that idea during week 41, that is, making a 42 hour EDM that was like going to the moon.
