probably not better than the counselors, and level Is get $7.25 an hour... But I honestly have no idea how they even hire lifeguards - and they don't let 'em live on site if they're JUST lifeguards (and not also counselors).

I've only ever been to AC during the summer season (except for one month in Jan. when I was at space camp, the lake was empty, and no one was down at the lake or even up top for AC. So I have no idea. I've been making educated guesses about what I've seen as a counselor and as a camper.

last year, we were pretty desperate on lifeguards... So desperate, in fact, that on a couple occasions, I wound up lifeguarding for my own team because there were no lifeguards around. Of course, that was partly because as the two week team leader, we were swimming on the weekend, and had no normall...

I think it might be based on when they can hire lifeguards (who tend to be younger than counselors - usually seniors in high school, or just graduated).

well they figured out the clorine problem quickly.

But I do't know if the lake is open yet - last year, it wasn't open until our training week, which was in mid-may... But I may be wrong (I haven't been in Huntsville since mid-March).

I was talking about the things that come out of goose poo and lived in my shoulder for most of last summer, thanks to the lake not having enough clorine during training. The nurses insisted it wasn't ring worm, I got home and it turned out to be ringworm (which is actually a fungus). But the kids (A...

yes, that's exactly how I remembered you :)

I love sims... I love the outdoors... I could live without the creatures in the lake, but I don't mind it other than that...

I miss AC. Only 40 days! Or less?

I heard they can't be moved, but I'd also heard plans to move it to where rocket launch is (and also, now to where the Saturn V mock-up is). I've also heard discussion of building the building around the current location of the Saturn V - I don't think anyone knows really what they're gonna do yet.

Returning this summer!

I just got word from HR; I've been rehired for this summer. I'm so excited; I feel like a kid again. Anyway, I'll be at Sprocket from around June 1st until the end of the first week of August.

if you're going to AC, you will (schedule permitting) go see Red Flag. I have seen it so many times, I can quote the movie... And say it pretty much verbatim with the movie.

Oh the joys of being a night counselor down at the lake.... :-P

Actually, folks, space camp registration is UP this year - by a lot. It's the highest it's been in five years, and between mid-Feb and May this year, they had 40,000 campers come through.

that's not as bad as it was before - I can still make out people moving!

And I would mention something, only I'm not currently in Huntsville (or employed by sprocket). When I go back, I'll be sure to mention it, though.

I think he owes Space Camp a little more than $200,000... But that's just me.

While I was at Sprocket during training, I mentioned the dirty camera to Matt Green, the AM on weekends because he was running one of our outdoor trainings - maybe he mentioned it to maintenance or something...

usually new hires don't immediately work with ASA - that's an additional training. It happens on occasion, but not often.

don't let yourself get too narrowly focused on one thing. i did that for a while and missed opportunities I never realized how much I would enjoy them. Maybe it doesn't have direct relevance to your career as an engineer - but perhaps it will show you that you love kids, and you'll wind up volunteer...

I'm a little confused as to how you think there's little to be gained for an AE working at AC or Space Camp. First off, so many of the counselors, especially during the summer, are AEs, that you make invaluable contacts. Secondly, you might find out about good opportunities that you weren't aware of...

yeah, but at one point, plans for the stand-up Saturn V have a restaurant or a gift shop at the top - so we all know that plans aren't final until they're done.
