Re: Pre-modern Sims

Kale i hate to say it but you desperately need to gt back to Huntsville or read hab 1 more often atleast. The Sky lab sim was restored and installed in the Davidson center last year. I'm going to try to make it down there for the Hall of Fame Dinner with Hotdog this summer you should really try and ...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

Thats true it did. However as of 2007 thjat trailer was condemned as unsafe and is no longer in use. And to my knowledge no use was ever made of the B-52 sim that was in it.

Re: Pre-modern Sims

Private sector will be launching manned fklights to low earth orbit. NASA is still developing the Orion capsule and the SLS heavy lift booster for deep space missions. Orion is still very much alive. As i said its first unmanned test is supose to be later this year it will be launched to a high eart...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

Kale i'm not sure where you get the idea Orion is history? That is the one part of the Constellation program that was kept though it looks a little diffrent in a few places. Orion is scheduled to make its first unmanned test flight on i believe its a Delta IV Heavy later this year in fact. The thing...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

The new sim may not have much in the way of controls but neither does the actual Orion. From the designs i've seen much of it will be touch screen and much more modern then the shuttles or older spacecraft. Should save some space for living area. Granted even NASA doesnt have all that worked out yet...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

I think Camp went the right direction in building an Orion capsule since it seems to be the one program that keeps geting caried over. Hopefully SLS will now be the launch vehicle and it doesnt get changed again. And Orion is scheduled to make its first unmanned test on a diffrent vehicle later this...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

No though this was done as part of the Constellation upgrades as the vehicle i mentioned above, they built an Orion Capsule and Altair lander which from what i here have seen limited use but they are still working out the bugs. It can be seen here though not the best shot of it http://30daysoftravel...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

Last i heard the old Endeavour sim isnt really being used at the moment. Last i heard it was intended to be an exploration vehicle for MARS, Moon, and Asteroid missions like the one NASA has been working on and has been tested by the Deser RATS team. Something along the lines of this http://www.ride...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

The old Endeavour the motion based one i dont think has been used for anything it was repainted beyond that i don't know anything else done to it. Like i said it was supose to be like the crew exploration vehicle NASA has been developinmg and testing in the desert. I'm not sure if any software was e...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

Okay, the one full mockup is Enterprise, the crew compartment only is Atlantis and the thrid is Endeavour, when did the names change and which one was which back in the 80s and 90s? I assume that the one got renamed from Columbia after the 2003 breakup, right? Trying to compare current names and fo...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

I was lucky enough to see Atlantis in 93 before they really started stripping her down. You didn't miss much with Columbia the flight deck was cool as an elementary school kid in the early 90s afterall it even had a computer but was not much to look at todays kids would probably laugh at it. I did h...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

I don't nessecarily disagree with you on this one like i said i have had my questions about this story as well your evidence makes some interesting points as well. Whether it was used in the film or not it had considerably more detail and a more complete cockpit at one time than it does today. Not t...

Re: Early Photos

This topic just has me looking for old pictures all over the internet of space camp. Here is an interesting article i;d say circa no earlier than 1990 which is i believe when the Space Station Mobility trainer pictured in the first photo of the article came into use. Also has a couple other pics one...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

It was supose to represent the real Atlantis in the movie. Atleast thats the story camp has always told was it was used to film the movie. Some things i've read about foilming make me question this though too but i don't really know. I remember reading some background stuff that said they way they f...
