Adam Savage's trip to the USSRC: "BEST. DAY. EVER."
Adam Savage visits the Space and Rocket Center and gets a private, up-close tour of the center's hardware archives, which are much more extensive than I realized: http://www.tested.com/art/makers/459540 ... -day-ever/

Re: "Someone named Al Bean on the phone for you...?"
Your fake history book idea seems like a pretty cool idea to me. I think it would work pretty well as a novel, too, if you wanted to go that route. Can't wait to see what becomes of it either way!

The Rubber Room at LC39-A
Apparently there is a safe room under the pad at Launch Complex 39-A which was accessed by a 200-foot-long slide partially inside the mobile launch platform. I'd never heard about it before, but my new favorite space historian Amy Shira Teitel has the details.

Cool! If it doesn't get picked up by a publisher you can always self-publish, one of the great things about our modern world. Let us know where we can find it!

Apollo 10's floating turd
I got a kick out of this section of the Apollo 10 mission transcript (http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/history/mission ... S10_CM.PDF) in which Tom Stafford, John Young, and Gene Cernan contain some rogue fecal matter. H/T bOING bOING

Re: First Canadian Space Station CDR
All of his videos were pretty cool and I saw them on a bunch of different websites. Short and fun, I think they were great publicity for the space program. The farewell video was by far the best, really took the cake!

Re: Anyone at SC ever get offended at the Von Braun story?
I thought this was relevant for anyone not familiar (or, like myself, in need of a refresher) with von Braun's history, Wernher von Braun: History's most controversial figure? Interesting reference, I wouldn't exactly consider Al Jazeera as the most impartial 'news' organization out there... What's...

Re: The Book
Reviving an ancient thread here, but I recently came across the book on Amazon . My favorite part is the starburst on the cover that says "Now a major motion picture", implying that the movie is based on the book when its really the other way around (I don't think the book was even release...

I would love to attend! If my wife gets a job before May and you still have a spot left, I am definitely in. If not, it depends on our financial situation.

Re: Anyone at SC ever get offended at the Von Braun story?
In my experience, they don't try to hide that Von Braun was opportunistic in pursuit of his goals for spaceflight. They could do more to discuss it, but I think people just aren't that interested in history. I do think there is some amount of unapologetic "hero worship" that should be temp...

Collection of space exploration artifacts
Venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson has a nice collection of space exploration artifacts, which he writes about (along with a bunch of other cool stuff) on his Flickr stream . The highlights include this Apollo prototype flag and Grumman construction log of the Eagle LM , but you should really check ...
