Re: Family Camp Review

Sounds like a great time, Benji. I have been there with 6 different nephews in the past. The first time I was told that about half the kids are dragging their parents there and about half the parents are dragging their kids there. I have had some really good experiences and a couple of bad ones. On ...

Re: Alumni Weekend 2015

Last year our adult 4-day camp in August coincided with the Hall of Fame Dinner. There was a lot of confusion as to whether it was included or not. Some of us paid for it in advance, only to find out that most of our team mates did not have to pay. We got refunds eventually, but it wasn't well done....

Re: Space Camp flight suit differences and details...

Well, they did listen to me on one thing. Last summer when I was there was the first time that they didn't provide towels to the campers. I had no advance notice on this and brought no towels with me. Fortunately, they had a few old ones in lost and found that they were able to loan to me and my fel...

Re: Aviation Challenge First Timer

I have done the adult AC, which is only a weekend. I found it useful to bring my own camouflage and hiking boots. They will provide camouflage, if you don't have any, for the Escape and Evade exercise, which involves crawling through the woods at night. The hiking boots come in handy. If you don't h...

Re: Weeklong Adult Space Camp

I think you are being a little unfair to Facebook users. I belong to the Facebook group, but I have been in this forum much longer. I was waiting for the announcement on Facebook too, but when it didn't come, I just kept checking the Space Camp website which is where I eventually found it. After reg...

Re: Weeklong Adult Space Camp

I agree with Vincent's thoughts. I think I was the first to sign up and I know some of my friends only signed up after the first group was filled. But I doubt that Hoot will be with us for the majority of the time. So he can probably train part of the time with both teams. I never expected that he w...

Registration is now available online and I have booked for the Advanced Space Academy with Astronaut! I can hardly wait the next 7 months. I hope I see some of you there.

Re: Alumni items now available in the online gift shop

I ordered a mug and a patch. No way to choose which color mug, though, so I put it in the Additional Information field on the checkout. I chose black. Looking forward to more items in the future.

Re: Weeklong Adult Space Camp

I put in my vacation request at work for this. Just waiting to hear back. I am hoping to attend the With and Astronaut option. Fingers crossed. It is more expensive than the four-day because they have put in special meals, the scuba training and the 12-hour EDM, all of which add to the costs, but it...

Long Term Space Experiment

For those of you who might not have seen it, there is a great article this week in Time Magazine (cover story) http://science.time.com/2013/08/09/twins-in-space-an-unlikely-cosmic-experiment/ It is about Scott and Mark Kelly and the controlled experiment they are doing with NASA to assess the effect...

Re: Total noob...where have I been?!

I stayed in one of the large bays at Aviation Challenge when I was there for Adult AC, several years ago. There were about 20 bunks but only 4 women at our camp. We had lots of room and were able to bond as a group. One benefit of Hab 2 might be closer restrooms. In Hab 1 you often have to go up or ...

Poem

I thought I would post a poem that I wrote for my team in 1996, after an 8-day adult Space Camp. A lot of the experience will seem familiar. The Ballad of the Kennedy Team by Diane M. O'Keefe We came from around the United States; Each one to live our dream. Eighteen men and women to test our fates;...

Re: Alumni swag, what do you want to see?

All the previous mentioned. Plus: a backpack, a portfolio notebook, a beach towel and a lunchbox. I have the first two with a regular space camp logo and I always bring them with me to camp. Plus I have taken the portfolio notebook into meetings outside of Space Camp. I would use the lunchbox at wor...

Re: My 4-day SC experience...

The Space Tweeps patch was designed and made into actual patches in advance of the October program, but it was designed to represent both the August and October programs. As such, it had to be pretty generic and couldn't capture the spirit of each team the way your patch did for yours. That requires...

Re: My 4-day SC experience...

Sounds like a great time. I wish I could have attended both. We only had the one adult team in August, and some of use were also on the Facebook group. I just joined it when I heard they were sponsoring the longer adult camps this year. They will be keeping us informed about the week long camp next ...

Re: So, who's ready for 2014?

(Full disclosure: Ok, even if there are bugs, I've never done the Orion in all the years I've gone to camp...so I'm really excited to try it regardless...but to date the Enterprise is my favorite sim). I agree with you, Justin. Enterprise has always been my favorite too. You will be pleased to know...

Re: So, who's ready for 2014?

If it is the same as the August 4-8 session, which was arranged by the same group, we had 3 shuttle missions and one Orion Lunar Missions. The first 2 shuttle missions were one hour long. The third was a 3-hour extended duration mission and the Orion Lunar mission was 2 hours. We only had one adult ...
