Re: Space Shuttle exhibit/retirement of Shuttle sims

No, I mean climbing into one of the camp's full sims. That's totally different from the low-tech sims the public can hop into. Greasing a landing in one of those is really easy, the camp sim is a little tougher (and cooler when your sitting in the middle of it). Agreed on the cool factor but they'd...

Re: Space Shuttle exhibit/retirement of Shuttle sims

Imagine charging non-camper visitors a fee to do an approach/landing in the orbiter sim? Heck, I'd be willing to pay for that before and after I go to camp in any given year! They already have that for free. You start at 10,000 feet. Last year, it was sitting near the UAT tank. There used to be two...

Re: Space Shuttle exhibit/retirement of Shuttle sims

USSRC lacks the funds to replace the shuttle sims with anything. I think this is more about making the MASTIF, 1/6, and 5DF available to the public.

Re: So, who's ready for 2014?

Adult Programs Holding is still there, whatever that means.

The December 4-day has disappeared again.

There appears to be a bargain price ($499, normally the 3-day price) 4-day listed for 9/4/2015-9/7/2015. They might have to honor that one if you sign up.

Re: A few questions about ASA

And keep in mind, NASA is a government-run enterprise. Don't expect any luxury surroundings. Camp is not a plushy atmosphere. It's very realistic in that respect. USSRC is run by the Alabama State Science Exhibition Commission. I believe that NASA surroundings might be considered "plush" ...

Re: Space Shuttle exhibit/retirement of Shuttle sims

I meant the motion sim Endeavour from my first camp in 1991 since the conversation concerns USSRC. Essentially just the cockpit with 2 MS seats, she was empty when I saw her last year with "Colbert" on the outside. I was surprised as those sims are expensive yet they are probably more expe...

Sounds like Endeavour's new home...

It was really sad to see her gutted last year.

Re: So, who's ready for 2014?

The year long adult space academy is now labelled as "Adult Programs Holding", whatever that means.

USSRC used to be so much better at providing information, IMHO.

Re: So, who's ready for 2014?

I wonder what would happen if I registered for the year-long camp? I'm sure I would get a call to say they oopsed, but what would they transfer it to? LOL I was wondering the same thing. Probably a 3-day based on the price... I love the idea of a 4-day camp over the Christmas break.. So do I, altho...

Re: Adult Advanced Space Academy

That's interesting to know though, especially for those of us who might want to do an ASA but can't. If we get enough people interested, we CAN do it. Anyone know what size that group is? My guess is 15-16. Years ago, USSRC said that we needed a minimum of 8 to run missions. However, the per person...

Maybe they designate corporate camps as ASAs.

Here's a "cheap" camp: 9/28/2014 - 9/27/2015 for $499. 8)

They show it now, right between Christmas & New Year's.

They also show a year long camp: 9/28/2014 - 9/27/2015 for $499. OOPS!

Re: So, who's ready for 2014?

That's what I'm seeing now as well, but I definitely saw a December 4 day when I was looking yesterday. It was Dec 27-30. I doubt it filled up that quickly so maybe it was added in error and removed. USSRC told me that that is the case with the adult ASA. A group is signed up for ASA and it was acc...

Re: Adult Advanced Space Academy

So, did someone at SC just wake up one morning and say, "Hey, why not have an ASA in a few weeks?" No, a group signed up for ASA and it was displayed accidentally on the website, so I was just told by USSRC. They used to have adult ASAs yet the attendance dropped off so they do the...

Re: Adult Advanced Space Academy

I agree on the timing of the listing yet the woman I talked to this morning indicated that they rarely have these camps now unless there is a group coming in. That is what happened with the last ASA I attended. In fairness to USSRC, they listed it 9 weeks before the start date and I would assume tha...
