Re: Size/weight limits?

I don't know how your feet almost didn't fit, except sneakers can be quite bulky. I've put kids on the MAT who wear size 13 and up. There are a few tricks of the trade, the primary one being you take the shoes off, put them in the foot restraint, then put your feet back in the shoes and lace up. I'v...

Re: Size/weight limits?

The weight restrictions are in place for the safety of the trainee. Those parameters are made by the manufacturer of the equipment. Yes, it's a bummer, but I've seen the 1/6 chair when someone lied about their weight. It was scary! It was also out of commission for a week while new parts were delive...

Re: So, who's ready for 2014?

To my knowledge in the last two years, this is the first time for a 4 day camp. I would call & talk to camper services when your camp gets close to get more information. I am attending the Hall of Fame dinner myself. Trainee Services  won't have the schedule until the previous week. Sched...

Re: 'The Martian' book, fiction

I know the character you mean! I pictured her as a quirky, moderately punk style type person. I can't think of an actress today right off the top of my head.

Yeah, I cracked up over that one. I could just hear him saying it!

So, who do you envision as your favorite character?

Re: 'The Martian' book, fiction

I liked the switching of the narrative, so we could see what was happening back on earth. A friend of mine, who read my recommendation on FB, said he thought the movie rights had been purchased. So we may see a film!

Re: 'The Martian' book, fiction

Excellent recommendation, P51! I'm already about 30% into the book and loving it! It feeds the geekdom in his detailed explanations, but doesn't go so far as to be boring. I love the 'voice' in which the book is written. You really feel like you are in Mark's head!

Re: A few questions...

I really wish the adult programs had this, too... :? It's a logistical thing. The team cameras are handled by the Trainee Services office, which isn't necessarily manned on the weekends. Since we're doing more Adult camps through the spring and summer perhaps P&L can revisit the idea. I know it...

Re: Habitats

There are two lockers in each room that are extra-sized. Larger suitcases will fit. I always hog one of them, plus two of the smaller ones. Nope, only one extra-sized locker per room. The other six are approximately 18"x48"x24" deep. The only way you'll get to 'hog' 3 lockers is if y...

I remember watching TV coverage of the Gemini missions. OK, I'm an Old Gummer. If you're an Old Gummer, I can't imagine what you'd classify me as! I remember the TV being rolled into our 2nd grade classroom and two other classes cramming in with us to watch Alan Shepard's first flight! 8) The blog ...

The biggest thing to remember is HAVE FUN! Some of your group will be very intense, but most are looking for a new adventure. Your Crew Trainer will keep you busy, engaged and educated! You'll have a lot of fun learning lots of new things and testing yourself physically and mentally. Your schedule i...

Hotdog, thank you for you succinct comments that hit a home run! It is our donations and sharing that will drive this fundraiser. That we get a small token of thanks is a bonus! I've made my donation and am excited about the keyring. I hope I can find more to donate as the campaign continues!

Unrelated, note the second person from the right, she ditched her visitor center patch and put on a white-bordered US flag. From first glance at the suit and the age of the person wearing it, I thought she was a real astronaut until I zoomed the image in and saw it was a SC suit... That is Ruth Mar...

Hows the mounting of the A-12 coming? Anyone know if this is moving forward? I totally missed this question! The area where the A-12 is to be mounted has been marked off with posts. It's going to be quite an impressive display. You'll know you've arrived at the USSRC when you see it! Meanwhile, the...

It's that time of year again! If you know anyone who might be interested in working the most amazing, satisfying, and exciting (not to mention, just plain cool !) job in the world, have them apply to be a counselor! Training will start in early January, so go to our website (www.spacecamp.com) and a...

Re: An individual booking attending with a group booking

All of the advice given above is excellent. The group from Puerto Rico will be delighted that your daughter will be practicing her Spanish on them. :D Warn her that their dialect will probably be different than her formal Spanish, but she will learn a lot from them! Feel free to call the Trainee Ser...
