Re: Name Badges
I know this is ancient thread, but I stumbled across this photo and had to put it here. I have never seen one like this before. It must be a really early one, predating the mission specialist wings.

Re: Rocket Center lays off more than a third of staff
I've heard they got rid of a lot of higher tenured people. Frankly, this is very common in Corporate America right now, forcing out the people with the higher salaries...

Re: eBay: SC California Right Stuff Award
I, too, have been unimpressed with awardees of this reward that I have seen over the years. As for a list of those who have been awarded it, I really don't think they ever kept records of this kind of stuff. And as for the people awarded it, I went to a antique store near the old railroad station Mu...

Re: eBay: SC California Right Stuff Award
I saw that when I first got listed, and though it's not terribly expensive, it's more than I do want to pay for one. I've only ever seen this one, and one for the Florida camp, show up on eBay. I nabbed the Florida one, a few years back.
Never have I seen a Huntsville one for sale anywhere.

Re: 2020: who's going to Space Camp?
I think it's probably a given thing, sadly, that nobody is going to be going this year... If there was ever a place where you would likely pick up some sort of disease, other than in a laboratory or hospital, it would be in the Sims at SC. How many of you have been told to be careful touching things...

Re: "For All Mankind"
It isn't free, you actually have to sign in with your credit card number under some sort of promotional deal to get into that service. I refuse to be involved in something like that.
That said, of course I was curious about the series, and I do find your insights very interesting.

Re: 2020: who's going to Space Camp?
Hotdog, congrats!
Sadly, since I first asked the question, anyone going to Space Camp anytime in the near future (or maybe even this year or beyond if things don't get much better) had become questionable.
Let's hope we can all get to planning for our next visit to SC soon enough!

Re: Movie patch, real or replica?
I see what you mean. It has a different font than the USSRC one in the packaging. A facsimile of a facsimile... Well, maybe not. I have one of these and it's not a new patch. I think it could actually be a patch either made for the production people (who often get souvenir stuff like this from prod...

Re: Movie patch, real or replica?
2007 facsimile patch on Ebay… https://www.ebay.com/itm/223861837969?ul_noapp=true Nope, that is not one of the gift shop patches. I have one just like it, made a lot like the real movie ones though some of the letters aren't done the same way. Web backing, merrowed edge. Clearly not sold in the gif...

Re: Remake
The original movie led you to think they were all going to the Space Camp at Kennedy (otherwise that was a long commute from Huntsville on two occasions in the film). I can't help but wonder if this new film will have a similar concept and if so, if it'll take part back in the 80s or today. As nobod...

"Ad astra" movie
I saw it the first weekend of the release and in a word, "Meh." The nuts and bolts, to me, proved distracting. The opening sequence of an antenna array anchored on the ground that went into space was a little confusing to me, tears going down a face in zero gravity, "Space Force"...

"Red and Rover" comic
This comic strip often has references to the space program as it takes place sometime in the 60s from what I can tell.

Re: 2019?
Hate that you couldn't make it, Kale. You missed a great party! I'm still recovering from the 8 days of SC and Apollo awesomeness. I spoke to one of the sim techs very briefly, and he said the Discovery sim will be removed this fall to begin its transformation into a Dreamchaser. Supposedly SNC is ...
Re: 2019?
Recently I started really thinking about SC. My most recent week-long trip in November was actually a disappointment in many ways. They’ve cut down the things that make SC special to such a degree, I wondered a few times that week what I was even doing there. I’m sure that to a degree it’s due to th...
