I'm having a great time! There are 17 people on my team, and it's a good mix of ages. Glad you're enjoying it. My roommate from adult ASA is there this week too, Reagan. I've been following her pictures on Facebook, wishing I was there. I had thought about going back next year but I guess now I won...

Actually it wasn't the teams which wore different colored flight suits, rather the different tracks wore different color flight suits. If I remember correctly green was for aero (pilot), grey was for engineering (mission specialist), orange was for...I think they called it technical? (payload specia...

When I went to Camp in the early 90's, I remember the food being really bad. When I went back in 2007 to the adult program (and after many more trips to various camps and retreat centers) I found the food at Camp reasonable. The adult program did have the advantage of having some different options (...

With most camps that I've been to, the best time to shower is always five minutes before offical wake-up time. I'm a morning person, so I'm usually awake pretty early. As a kid, I never had a problem with waking up a few minutes early and hitting the showers. As an adult chaperone at many overnight ...

Orion isn't dead after all...just renamed
Apparently the Orion program isn't exactly dead. It's got a new name, an upgrade and, hopefully a bigger mission. Maybe we really will get back to the moon and beyond and all those new sim missions at Camp will become reality after all. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405270230452080457634347...

1. Is it really cold in Huntsville? Everyone is wearing sweaters and jackets, etc. I'm just about ready to wear shorts up here. (+5C, 41F) Cold is relative. For somewhere like Huntsville, the "Deep South", Everyone would be bundled up if it was 41F. Where I am, in North Texas, it's consid...

Now as much as i would love to see Huntsville get it nd Enterprise has a Huntsville connection since so much testing ws done there i would say Dryden flight research center has just as much if not more connection to it since the approach and landing tests were done there. At the same time i wouldnt...

So, anyone have any opinions? Kennedy Space Center and Johnson Space Center are obvious choices. Wright-Pat makes good sense too (amazing museum there. The Valkrie is such a beautiful bird.). I've never been to The Museum of Flight in Seattle but have heard some good things about the place. Of cours...

One mission, two MSs were suited up in white coveralls and a helmet and wired to (hang gliding?) harnesses attached to the ceiling. You go into the cargo bay and maneuvre around to build a solar array or replace a battery in the chronically plagued West Star satellite. Sometimes one person gets to ...

I found Hab1 during a web search looking for information on camp before I went to adult ASA a few years ago. It does show up in web searches, but you do have to dig a little bit. I think we would all like to see the community grow. There is a sacrifice of some of the intimacy of the community, but t...

I don't know about the current conditions, but when I was there for Adult ASA a couple of years ago, wifi was available in the Hab as well as the cafeteria. However, a number of sites were blocked (I remember facebook was one, the Lockheed web page required for remote access to the company network w...

So what would you bring to 8 Day ASA? You'll definitely want clothes (shorts and t-shirt) to wear under the flight suit. You'll need to wear your flight suit for all missions as well as various other times during the week and there's not really an option to do laundry. So, even with wearing stuff u...

Looks like an interesting program, very ambitious. I hope that they're able to pull it off. The idea that there's on-line work required prior to arrival is interesting. I'm not certain how they're going to mandate that. But, given the academic nature of the program, I think it would be important and...

I understand the medical stuff is where the anomalies come in for MOCR, but the lack of realism bothered me. Got an ear ache? It must be XYZ condition that needs surgery! We made up a surgery in MOCR (with our handy ear-nose-throat surgeon). Good times. The ghosts totally went along with our antics...

For the EDM I was capcom which was a lot of fun, so I think for the orbiter ms is more fun while for MOCR pilot is better. Either way it was a nice balance and the anomalies kept us busy (giving benadryl to a narcoleptyc is a very bad idea lol). The thing that got me about the anomalies in MOCR is ...

One other thing, when I was there, I got up a little early and went for a run and did some calesthenics under Pathfinder most mornings. If you do decide to do that, make sure you take your badge with you, especially if you go outside of the gates, into the parking lot, down to AC, etc. You'll still ...

I did Adult ASA in September of 2007. I was in the Mission Specialist track. For everything but the training and missions, MS and Pilot track was identical. My week, the pilots scubaed one night while the MSs went to Aviation Challenge to fly the simulators and ride the centerfuge. The next night we...

I don't know about employment or an internship at Space Camp, but I wouldn't write off your local astronomy club. Yes, the people there might be your parents' age, but that doesn't mean they can't be excited about astronomy and excited to help someone new and young learn more about something they ar...

The flag is actually a fairly recent addition. My license plates don't have them (got them in December 2006). But I've been noticing it more now that people have pointed out the issue. The hatch on the wrong side has bugged me for a good while. The lack of oms pods I've always just chalked up to not...
