Re: 2019?
The STS sims are Space Camp to more than one generation of people. It would kill me if they removed all of them, especially Enterprise. Maybe someday if there's something tangible and real going to space (as in, after we have landed on the Moon again) and not theoretical, they'll take the orbiter si...

Wow, I didn't know about this (so if you lost, it wasn't to me). I would have bid on it if I'd known, though...
Re: 2019?
The FFT in Seattle was just used for ground training (I assume for strapping in and emergency egress training). There were no sims ever hooked up to it and the museum there didn't get one of the actual STS sims. :( I think I read somewhere that one of the STS motion sims from Houston was given to a ...

Re: Smithsonian @ Space Academy
Just slap the name, "Smithsonian" onto the "train with an astronaut" Adult academy and charge much more. Heck, my wife and I took a non-space-related trip to Colorado earlier this month through a local tour company and I recommended they do a Space Camp trip almost exactly like t...
Re: 2019?
I have to be honest, and I can't believe I'm even thinking this, much less writing it, but unless I hear definitive proof that the adult program content has improved, I just don't see me going back anytime soon. I have watched the quality of the adult program slowly diminish the last two times I hav...
Re: 2019?
I am going to go on a wee bit of a rant here. The adult camp page talks about learning what it takes to be an astronaut. Yet can you really do that in a one hour mission? That's barely enough time for a launch and landing, much less on orbit operations. The last time I participated in a one hour sh...

Re: Informal space science education thread
Yeah, OK-1K1 (the only flown Buran) got crushed in it's hangar in a winter storm. A few Roscosmos employees died in the collapse as well as I understand. There was never any real plans to display the Buran anywhere, sadly. Russia doesn't have a museum on the level of Smithsonian Air & Space muse...

Re: "First Man" movie, who's going to see it the opening weekend?
Jennifer, I can't disagree with your take on the film. I saw it in IMAX and the grainy hand held shots were almost impossible to watch in that format, but it made the Crystal clarity of the Moon scenes that much more impressive by comparison. It's a good movie on DVD or BluRay, as you can skip to th...

Re: Lego movie voice actors go to Space Camp
BTW, I thought handing out a Right Stuff Award just cheapened it further. It's not a Medal of Honor. I know plenty of people who consider the Right Stuff Award to be sort of a joke anyway, either given to the 'cool kid' in the team or the one with a sob story. I understand that they paid a $2,500 l...

Re: 2019?
My wife and I will be going to a 3 day Adult Space Academy in May. Due to a job change and other things going on career wise there is no way we could do it on our actual anniversary so this was as close we could get. (Which was only a couple weeks early anyways). It was a mutual gift we bought for ...

Re: Movie patch, real or replica?
Out of curiosity, was this patch used or not used? (Pin holes from stitching, wear, etc?) I could not quite tell from the photos. It's stretched slightly, so I'm not 100% sure it was never sewn to anything. It doesn't look as fresh as a patch that never saw the sunshine on a garment at some point. ...
Re: 2018
The initial Hoot Camp generated a lot of excitement and interest. It was a great value for its price yet there was no way that there was going to be another loss leader like that. I feel that it led to inflated expectations at USSRC regarding future adult attendance and for possible attendees regar...
Re: 2018
My wife has offered to let me pick out a trip for us next year for my 50th birthday. Not a chance could I pick SC for that as she would be along and although I think she'd like most of it (especially the problem-solving), the silly parts of space ghosts and the "hit the ground running without a...

Re: Space Camp Benefits!
Space Camp isn't as 'serious' as many think it is, in my opinion. I think it's halfway between a serious thing and a chance to go goof off with people your age. I would strongly suggest going to Space Camp while you are young. You will get so much more out of it . You will learn to work as a team wi...

Re: Movie patch, real or replica?
I also was an active bidder on that patch. It is a great piece! thanks, I actually got a second offer on it, which leads me to believe that either they had two of them, or the person who won backed out. I have curtailed my space camp collecting, for the most part, but this was the one thing I wasn'...

Re: Movie patch, real or replica?
Okay, whatever that previous one was, I'm 99.999999% certain I have a real "Spacecamp" movie patch now!
It didn't come cheap, but I've compared it to the known movie ones online and it matches perfectly.

Re: 2018
However, I feel that a majority of people come to camp and get pumped up to do missions, not engineering and programming. It is very sad that missions are such a small part of camp when they used to be the majority. I am with you in that I'd rather spend time on the sims, and I bet for groups like ...
Re: 2018
5 hours total mission time...<SMH> Speaking for myself, if I knew that we would only get 5 hours mission time for a "week" (really a 4 1/2 day) long program, I might not register in the first place. No wonder they keep a tight lid on activity details beforehand... I can't disagree with yo...
