Re: Adult Space Academy 49 - AWESOME!!!

Thank you all for your excellent suggestions! I shall be tweaking the packing list with your ideas in mind. By the way, if you are caught out, we do keep a small supply of towels in Trainee Services. When one is not claimed out of lost and found we wash it and put it away for just such a situation. ...

Re: Adult Space Academy 49 - AWESOME!!!

Also, the fact there are no towels, even to buy is lousy...I brought one but I know others who were in the family camp going on did not so had to get a ride to walmart to buy some. On my suggestion several years ago, the gift shop carried some lovely beach towel size towels in Space Camp blue and e...

The 'Canadian' menu is Stuffed Meatloaf, Sweet Potato (yams) and Canadian bacon hash, Poutine, green beans and a dinner roll. Yup, poutine!

Re: Pretty Colors

Being rather OCD, it was seriously bugging me. :D I went into each subject and found 'unread' threads from ages ago. I went to the top right hand side of the highlighted subjects and there is a 'mark all read' selection, so now the pretty colors are gone. We'll see if it remains that way the next ti...

Pretty Colors

I assumed when I open the forums that the subjects highlighted in yellow (as opposed to blue) would be threads with new comments. This is not so. One thread so highlighted hasn't been used since December 2014. An anomaly, or is there some other significance?

Stay away from the burger place in Decatur though (slugburgers). Those burgers are as nasty as the name! I don't know what the appeal is for some folks. :x

Re: Space Camp flight suit differences and details...

Well, they did listen to me on one thing. Last summer when I was there was the first time that they didn't provide towels to the campers. I had no advance notice on this and brought no towels with me. Fortunately, they had a few old ones in lost and found that they were able to loan to me and my fe...

Re: Aviation Challenge First Timer

What kind of clothes should I pack for weather in early July? Shorts and tees, but bring long pants for E&E. Bring old sneakers that you won't mind abandoning after E&E, as that is Thursday night and rarely are they dry enough to pack up on Friday morning. Bring a large plastic bag to pack ...

Re: Kennedy Space Center

I wish I could remember the place we ate at in 1984 and again in '87, that is on the left side of the main road leading in to KSC. It looked like a dive in a strip shopping center, but had rock shrimp to die for! They brought us a tray full (waiter beverage tray), steamed and in the shell with a bow...

Re: Space Shuttle exhibit/retirement of Shuttle sims

Endeavour is taking up a large majority of the center section of Astrotrek (as you can imagine). The MOCR is under construction. Attached to middeck is now a 'Space Lab', to be accessed during flight. It will still be used for trainee missions (mostly Pathfinder teams). Eventually it will be part of...

Re: Total noob...where have I been?!

Wow, that is fantastic news! Any new doors in the plans for this upgrade, street? Some were in horrible disrepair in 2012. I hope they will be repaired as well. Yes, doors should be repaired and standardized. I agree, the slamming doors are horrible! I was just in there a few minutes ago and you can...

Re: Total noob...where have I been?!

We are doing a complete and long needed reno of all of the Hab I rooms! Even the RA rooms are getting a make over. The rooms won't be any bigger, but there'll be new flooring, new ceiling and paint and general sprucing up. It should be done by the end of February and boy, are we excited! Jenn, you'l...

Re: Total noob...where have I been?!

Jen, don't forget to pick up your frame when you stop by Trainee Services. If no one is in the office it is on top of the tall black cupboard by the ladder with your screen name on. Just leave the money on Kathy's desk.

Re: Total noob...where have I been?!

Jenn, we all expect a full report - with photos - soon after you get back! Frankly, I'm dying to hear about a SC experience from someone who had to deal with cold weather. I'd love it if it wasn't nearly as hot in Huntsville as every time when I've gone there... The temps should be back to January ...

Re: Total noob...where have I been?!

Yup, we'll hold your luggage at Trainee Services (aka Camper Services). Kathy should be in there most of the day on Friday, but if the office is empty and unlocked, feel free to stash it under one of the tables and leave a note on Kathy's desk.

Re: Total noob...where have I been?!

Quite frankly, you never know what the weather will be in January! Prepare for cold (highs in the 30s), but bring layers, as sometimes Januarys turn off gorgeous with temps in the 60s! As the old adage goes, if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes...it'll change!

Re: Space Camp Hiring for January 2015

A common fallacy is that this is a job just for 20 somethings. I was in my 40s when I was hired and since then they've hired a number of folks that age and older! If you'd love to do, then do it! It was totally different from anything I'd ever done before and I loved it!

Re: So, who's ready for 2015?

For those of you interested in a 2015 camp, the Black Friday-Cyber Monday deal includes a $100 discount off the adult weekend price. As far as I know that could be applied to either 3 or 4 day programs. http://www.spacecamp.com/blackfriday?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_cam...
