Re: Pre-modern Sims

When did that take place? Are we talking about the same thing? This is the trainer that used to be in the main museum correct?

If so, I fault that as a lack of you not talking to me Jason! lol

Re: Pre-modern Sims

Wow no crap. I actually managed to get to walk into one of the SAC cars one time for a quick glimse, but I don't remember to much about it. Anyone got pictures? What about the sim itself, anyone been inside? I was lucky enough to get to go in an actual B-52 sim used by Air Force pilots full time in ...

Re: T-38 arrived at Huntsville

Whats the large object behind the T-38? Looks like the mounting points for the SSME's. Never seen this before. Wasn't there a space station simulator in that area before?

Also I see they have an engine under the right side of the stack.

Re: Pre-modern Sims

Interesting, when I was at KSC last year they spoke multiple times as though NASA will not be moving ahead with a manned space craft, but only the heavy lift rocket. According to the staff the private sector will be launching all the manned flights.

Re: Pre-modern Sims

You know when I heard of the orion sims coming around, it totally flashed in my mind that it would be awesome to have an Apollo type sim to use. Obviously, first off it would be cool because its Apollo, I think that carries it's own right there. Also, like was being said earlier, the Orion cockpit i...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

You know guys, I do not know why we haven't put together a web site with the history of the training floors and the sims. I know Jason and I have talked in length over the years about all the sims and thier history and they are just as much a peice of history as the real deal sims NASA uses. Vincent...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

So does anyone know about the control systems before the current one they put into the sims (and loss of the distinctive CRT bulges on the windows)? I remember that the windows displayed basic images of what you would think to see on the outside of the orbiter. I assume that the orbiter knew the sta...

Re: Pre-modern Sims

Man I miss you guys, talking up the old sims is making me want to go back and hang out on the training floor. The first time when I went back for the alumni acad was really the first time I was "cut loose" to do whatever I wanted at the facility. I really wish I would have had that opportu...

Pre-modern Sims

Hey guys, I know you have probably covered this somewhere, but I was looking around the other day in some older posts and had a question about the Atlantis sim. How good of a representation was it to the actual equipment back in the day when the sim was in its prime? I remember back in the mid 90's ...

Re: JSC New Exhibit in the Works, SCA + Explorer! Check it

According to what I have read the interior of Explorer will be re-done and updated to reflect the config of the orbiters as they were retired. I don't see any reason that they won't complete the endevour, as Houston never suffered from the economic downturn of past years. Just FYI, JSC's Saturn V is...

JSC New Exhibit in the Works, SCA + Explorer! Check it out

This is pretty impressive. Huntsville, has a full stack, but in the coming years Houston will have a full stack of other sorts. The 747-100 that transported the orbiter to and fro will be put on display at Space Center Houston, with Explorer mated on top. Check out the web site: http://www.spacecent...

Those all sound pretty good. The last time I went was near launch time so I didn't get to go on any of the extra tours. I really am thinking about making a trip in August.

Kennedy Tours of the Launch Complex

Hey guys, I don't know if you are aware of this, but they are offering tours of the launch pad up close at Kennedy. See the caption below: "For the first time in 50 years, NASA is opening its gates to public visitors to tour the main launch pad. The new KSC Up-Close: Launch Pad Tour, the latest...

Good job Brian, I think Penny was tooting her horn a little... :-) Glad you guys had fun. I think you are right, it would be nice to be able to stop at the rocket garden. An idea that JSC has right is that they are flexible with when you leave each bus stop, since the transit system runs on a regula...

Guys, I am not going to be able to make it. We are still in the middle of figuring the housing situation out in Houston. So rather than go be with you guys this weekend, I gotta drag ass back to Houston. However, if I have a chance, I might try to go by JSC. If I do, I'll post a report. I, of course...
