Re: Question from first time
I always felt the PAO position at camp was pointless. I mean in the real world they are comnetating for NASA television and whoever ma be watching it. At Space Camp they are giving a running commentary for no one. I think their are other MOCR positions that could replace it and have a real purpose j...

Re: space camp scholarship
I just wanted to post an update on this. We were able to raise the funds to send one of our members to Space Camp for the first time since 2008. Our scholarship winner looks like he will be attending Space Academy in August of this year. I would also like to thank Vincent for donating to this cause....

Re: Normalization of deviance
I remember reading "The Challenger Launch Decision" many years ago and that term. I've studied the Challenger accident for a long time and later the Apollo 1 and Columbia as well. I'd say the normalization of deviance can be applied in all three cases. NASA came to accept things for expedi...

Re: Hab Windows
Don't know why they removed them specifically but I remember when I worked there a lot of counselors complained the bubble window rooms had a lot of bug problems probably coming in through the windows. I lived in Hab 2 so I never experienced it.

Re: You know you're addicted to Space Camp-
31. You start a group to reunite one of your space camp teams from 1998 atleast online. (succeded in doing this a few years ago) 32. You are currently using the said group to try to get as many of the team back together as possible for a 20 year reunion in in 2018. (working on this now) 33. you rand...

Re: Flightsuit sizes?
this has always bugged me about the space camp flight suits. Military flight suits come in sizes and lengths so you can more easily pick the right size for your build and height. Space camp suits just come in sizes. Problem with that is the bigger the size the taller the suit. So a short larger buil...

Re: "veteran" or "alumni" patch?
Your right it's not the STS it is the Space Launch System or SLS. As to why they used the F-16 you'd probably have to ask Hotdog as this is once again his design. He originally used the shuttle instead of SLS but they wanted the SLS instead. May have gone with the F-16 since it is one of the aircraf...

Re: Are counselors allowed to use the sims in down time?
That would imply they had down time. Now I can only speak for summer months since thats when i worked there but keep in mind camps are going on almost constantly and its not uncommon or at least wasn't 7 years ago for counselors to work 75-80 sometimes more hours a week. When you did have time off m...

Re: Trainer badge?
I would have said looks like a blank badge that just never had a picture of the crew trainer out on it but then i don't know the process used and if their are just blank badges they put the photo on or if they do all the graphics at once. I just know we had our pohotos taken first thing the first da...

Re: Blog on working at SC
Well said hotdog. I will say as alumni because of the memories we have we may have a somewhat higher tolerance than non alumni. However i also think college aged kids don't have a thick enough skin sometimes and if it does not go the way they want it they will complain, and write blogs like this abo...

Re: F-18
My guess is if they ever get one it will likely be a while. the FA-18 looks to be in service for the forseeable future especially with the Super Hornet version. And honestly i don't know where they would put it if they could get one it is a pretty decent sized aircraft. Who knows though maybe they c...

Re: vintage Space Camp memorabilia!
There was also an alumni polo shirt available in 07. It had the Space Camp logo with Alumni embroidered under it. Sadly something happened to mine in the wash and it was ruined i use to wear it a lot. Maybe the new Alumni advisory board could suggest something about more merchandise being available.

Re: vintage Space Camp memorabilia!
The smaller alumni patch the one that looks like a military style patch i was given when io went to alumni camp in 2007. I'm not sure what year it was even produced but i seem to remember it being in the gift shop once upon a time as well but it was no longer available for purchase by 07. The round ...

Re: vintage Space Camp memorabilia!
I was a right stuff award winner in 98. As for the magazine it is a Life Magazine i believe its from 1985 it had Bill Cosby on the front they show up on Ebay frequently when you do a space camp search. The article seems to have been written around the same time as the book i pictured from the 80s as...
