Re: 2020: who's going to Space Camp?
YES!! ...well, sort of. I've accepted a job in Huntsville and will be moving there soon. I expect to be at Space Camp and the Rocket Center a lot more now.

Re: Saturn 1 For Sale!
Considering that the first Saturn I Block I flight was just a test of this stage, with dummy second and third stages, it wouldn't take much for whoever buys this to turn it into a complete rocket for vertical display in a Rocket Park (are you listening, Sprocket? :D ). A basic and bare mockup could ...

Re: Orion anomalies
No Orion anomalies yet. I think they are holding off until we know what real Orion anomalies are going to look like. I don't think it would be too difficult to combine some of the real-life Apollo and Shuttle anomalies to make some temporary ones to use in the meantime. Otherwise, the kids who are c...
Re: 2019?
As far as I know, Enterprise is staying. Will confirm later. Buzz was not signing anything. We were lucky just to have him show up I think. He skipped out on the Homecoming dinner, and only spoke at the Aerospace States Association awards the following evening. He paused to take two photos before he...
Re: 2019?
Hate that you couldn't make it, Kale. You missed a great party! I'm still recovering from the 8 days of SC and Apollo awesomeness. I spoke to one of the sim techs very briefly, and he said the Discovery sim will be removed this fall to begin its transformation into a Dreamchaser. Supposedly SNC is c...
Re: 2019?
Well, they're not all gone. We still have Enterprise, Discovery and the newer Endeavour. Hoping we get to at least keep Enterprise as time goes on.airkale wrote: I'm glad in some ways that I haven't been at a camp since they got rid of the orbiters. I'd hate to have seen them all come down.
Re: 2019?
I really have to wonder what happened to all the shuttle era actual hardware sims? We have the STA in Huntsville, the SCA in Houston, and the Skylab trainers in both. But what about the orbiter actual sims from NASA? One is at the Museum of the Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, and the other is in Seattle...
Re: 2019?
An idea I had awhile back was to build my own Shuttle sim, similar to the Discovery or Endeavour we trained in at Space Academy back in the 80s and 90s. I'd use the free Orbiter sim as the basis for it, and purchase the readily available flat screen monitors for the windows and screens. Saitek makes...

Re: Smithsonian @ Space Academy
WOW! Glad to see this happening! I hope they sell out every spot. I like the idea of an "upscale" adult program. This is very close to being the "Adult Space Academy Elite" I've been dreaming about. The market for it may be very small, but it's there. Like the folks who would ne...

Re: 2019?
You might let Amber know. Seems like there's always someone wanting to squeeze in a +1 at the last minute, so it would be helpful to know there will be an empty seat to accommodate them.
Re: 2019?
I'll be there for sure, from the 13th until the 20th. Thursday is Biergarten, Friday is lunch with Hoot Gibson, and there's an astronomy thing going on at the planetarium that evening. Saturday there's a Pass The Torch lecture in the NatGeo theater before the concert. I'm sure there will be other th...
Re: 2019?
Very excited for Summerfest this year, with the added bonus of the Apollo 50 events rolled in with it! You can purchase tickets to the various events individually, but if you're going to be here all week, your best bet is to get the All Access Pass. You'll get a badge and a lanyard that gets you int...

Re: 2019?
The Hall of Fame dinner is the weekend of July 13, but the rest of the Summerfest alumni activities will be the weekend of July 20th. There's just so much going on that week with all of the Apollo 50 stuff. While the Summerfest stuff is still being nailed down, here is a run-down of the Apollo 50 ev...
Re: IMAX :-(
You guys are not going to believe what we have now in place of the old Spacedome IMAX! The new Intuitive 3D planetarium is literally out-of-this-world! This is going to be a game-changer for the Rocket Center and for Space Camp! The 8k laser projection system is the first of its kind in the world an...

I am going to guess that it's a returning trainee medal, but I could be wrong?
Re: 2018
My feeling is that adult camps are the redheaded stepchild. In a way, you are correct. One thing I forgot to mention is that right now, Space Camp attendance in the youth programs is B O O M I N G . The last two years or so, Camp programs have been booked to the max, to the point of having staff sh...
