Re: Adult Week 2013?

I'd rather give up the Aviation Challenge than the Area 51. When I went to Adult ASA a few years ago it was the Area 51 activities, particularly the pamper pole (possibly/probably because it built on the low ropes elements the previous day) that really helped to solidify my team. Interestingly, most...

Re: Adult Week 2013?

Total cost = $20398.45 for a team of up to 16 participants For ten people that breaks down to $2040 per person Obviously, the more people the better on this one That cost is a little scary to me. Even with 16 people that's $1274.90 per person plus transportation (airfare in my case). Not undoable, ...

Today is our lucky day... I also got a call from USSRC just now and have someone who will put together a custom program for us with a combination of ASA and MACH III missions, a 24-hour shuttle mission, a lunar mission, ropes course, etc. I'll post it all here when I hear back. Any week in Septembe...

Re: We're off!

Well folks, I managed to keep the surprise until Tuesday night when he caught me looking at flight paths around the hurricane. Not too bad. We leave for family camp tomorrow night. I found one flight suit for him and we'll get another for my son when we get there. I've got the duct tape and the war...

The 3-day adult sessions begin in late August and go into September. I had proposed we shoot for the Aug 23-25 2013 dates. I thought the original idea was to get a team together for a six or eight day camp, which would have to be organized specifically for our group, as that program is no longer of...

Sounds like we should try to get this Hab1 alumni camp for 2013 organized pretty soon! Who all is still considering going? In the original thread we had SpaceCanada, Conan, gt0163c, Benji, Celticowboy, AirKale, Richasi, Rkolker, Steve, and P51. I'm still interested but can't commit to anything in t...

When I went to Adult ASA one of my teammates recorded some of our missions when she was in mission control. She had a nice little digital audio recorder but the recordings were difficult to listen to. Mostly because she was only able to get what was said in mission control (couldn't tap into any of ...

You don't NEED duct tape. But it does come in useful, just as it does in every day life...plus the odd "I need to duct tape this person to the chair because they've gone crazy and this is the only restraint we have" situation, particularly on the longer missions. The nice thing about the s...

There was a brief discussion about programs that aren't making a profit. The adult programs look to be in that category. Sounds like the committee members would like to see a business plan including how to better market those programs or eliminate them. Nooooo!!!!! I was hoping they'd being back th...

I rang the USSRC this afternoon and left a message with someone who is in charge of private group camps and what not. Fingers crossed that we hear back from her. I will post all the details as I get them. As for the job search... still nothing... I may go back to school for a bit, however daunting ...

I am sorry to report that this trip has been put on hold. I was laid off from my job last week and do not know what sort of job I will have next and if I will have money and/or time off. I will still call sometime this summer to get details and potentially set it up a date. Just thought I would put...

I wonder why they built a special set. Why not just use one of the existing Hab II sleep bays? I'm guessing it would have been difficult to get all of the required equipment, get the lighting right and have room for the cameras and the actors in those small rooms. Most movie and tv sets have walls ...

- The kids bunked in Hab2 rather than Hab1. Not sure which Hab the group actually stayed in. Those quarters were pretty spiffy, weren't they? I hope parents don't expect their childrens hab rooms to look like those! That set was actually built in the bottom of Hab I. Ahh...having never been in a Ha...

I watched the movie last night and enjoyed it. After the initial "we don't have any programs for kids like yours", Space Camp did come off looking great. Overall, it was a good movie, inspiring for all and fun for us camp alumni. There were a couple of things that I noticed that made me sm...

Lego Saturn V Rocket - Minifig scale

I came across this earlier today. LEGO Certified Professional Ryan McNaught built a minifig (the little lego guys) scale Saturn V rocket on the launch pad.

Mr. McNaught has to have one of the best jobs in the world.

according to the coke website they do According to the cafeteria manager they won't. :( sad day Actually, that may be better. While the big machines are fun and give you lots of options, they only really work in low traffic areas. There are too many choices and, especially if people aren't familiar...

Any date preferences? Any date's that wouldn't work? Early spring or autumn would be best for us. Winter could work too. Summer and late spring is definitely out - it's way too hot in Alabama! Plus, I don't think they run private groups in the summer. Late spring or summer would not work for me eit...

For many of us, it's too far to go for just a weekend. I agree. I really want to go back for another adult program sometime in the near future. But the cost of transportation in addition to the program makes it more difficult to justify doing just a weekend. Plus, I want MORE. More than can just fi...
