Re: Less than a month away from ASA!

I asked if we'd be choosing our track or if it'd be assigned and from the response it sounds like we get to choose. (Dibs on PLT on the small team, lol) I know that for the LDM we have to have a position we've already done, but I can't see that there'd be a problem with swapping for one of the short...

Re: Less than a month away from ASA!

Some more details about the week were posted on fb today. There will be MS and PLT tracks for each time, mostly for scheduling reasons. I AM SO EXCITED!!!

Re: Less than a month away from ASA!

Just a reminder: Be sure to complete your health and dietary needs forms! I just did my preliminary report for the ADAA week and 10 folks have not completed them! :( Also, complete your transportation form! Adults are particularly negligent about that. If you don't request (and pay for) ground tran...

Re: Adult Space Academy 49 - AWESOME!!!

I spent time nearly every day for several months leading up to my first camp experience researching everything I could. I do that with pretty much everything, but it always surprises me to hear that other people don't plan so meticulously, haha. I must have watched a bajillion youtube videos and rea...

Re: Less than a month away from ASA!

A fellow camper suggested Riding Rockets to me after my 3 day. I picked up a copy and couldn't put it down. Loved that book! I'm trying to read Clayton Anderson's now, but with all my schoolwork I have trouble finding time to read for fun. I'll bribe people with cookies, cake, pie, whatever...to hav...

Re: Adult Space Academy 49 - AWESOME!!!

Rats, I knew I should have bought one of the towels when I was at camp in January!! I wanted one but I'd already blown my budget out the window. As far as the packing list, I felt it was pretty clear towels weren't provided, but I also read it obsessively several times because I was so excited. I th...

Alright gt, I took your advice and bought one of those towels. I LOVE IT!!!! I'm going to order another one so I can take two to ASA. And maybe a smaller one too for my hair, lol.

Less than a month away from ASA!

Okay, official roll call! Who's going Oct 11-16? And who's doing "train like an astronaut" and who's doing "train with an astronaut"? I submit my SCUBA form finally yesterday and have had two space camp dreams this week, so it's definitely starting to feel real. I'll be training ...

Re: Adult Space Academy 49 - AWESOME!!!

That sounds fantastic!!!! I am pretty much foaming at the mouth right now in anticipation of returning to camp in a month, haha. I am so glad you had a blast! Welcome to the alumni family :D It's a bummer you didn't get to play with the sims on the mission floor, but at least they had the ones in as...

Re: Towels?

Towels were not provided in January, and I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed since then. Definitely take one...worst that happens is you have an extra. Have fun!!! I can't wait to hear about that camp since it's the one I was originally signed up for. Hope you have a blast!

Re: Weeklong Adult Space Camp

There are still spots available on the train with and train like an astronaut teams for the 6 day in October if anyone happens to have the spare money and vacation time laying around. Only about 6 weeks to go!

Re: Patch Design

Definitely take colored pencils and/or markers. You may also want to have some shapes you could trace. We found that none of us was really artistically inclined enough to draw a circle and it took a few tries. Our drawing was about "life size" for a patch and we got to keep the original. O...

Re: Random photo, maybe a good idea?

Oh NOW you suggest that haha, I was just at the Eiffel Tower in April and totally would have done that just for giggles. I could take this photo every day at work if I was allowed to have my phone or take pictures in the pharmacy.

Re: First Timer at Adult Space Academy in September

I'm a planner, so I really like to know what's going to happen at every minute. I'm perfectly ok with not having that for camp til the day it starts though...though I would love to know if there are going to be tracks for pilot/MS. It looks like it on the schedule that was posted on FB, though the t...

Re: First Timer at Adult Space Academy in September

Yeah you won't get a schedule til you sign in the day of camp, unfortunately. Someone already got their hands on a schedule for the 6 day, but when I emailed for one I didn't get a response. The schedule is packed from the moment camp begins til it ends. At my 3 day, i felt it was perfect. We starte...

Re: Weeklong Adult Space Camp

We got to pick our spots for each mission in January. Our trainer tried to make sure no one got a second go in the orbiter if someone else wanted the spot, but we really had no drama about positions. Pilot is probably my favorite, as landing is so intense and terrifying I spent almost the full 2 hou...

Re: Weeklong Adult Space Camp

I'm kind of hoping there will be tracks, and that we can pick which one we want to do. I would jump on the pilot track so fast. I'm a button masher/flip switcher through and through, haha.

Re: First Timer at Adult Space Academy in September

I get the super bonus of having a 'first time' experience in October since Hab 1 was closed for renovations in January. We stayed in hab 2, which was cool, but I as bummed as I'd really got myself excited about hab 1. So I'm stoked to get that first glance at hab 1....3 months from YESTERDAY!!

Re: obsessed with the idea of space camp

Had to post again after reading the blog...nice job Sam! I never did finish mine. I have a partially written blog but I got sick and just never finished it. By the time I felt up to it again, the details weren't as fresh. It was great reliving our weekend through your blog. Our team was amazing. I d...
