I would recommend your little environmental control trick. (Unless the current hab has better controls!) I am planning, if I go in August, to bring lots of polar fleece. When I went last there was no polar fleece. Also I found my pix and a letter re: the first adult space camp. But not the program d...

I just started thinking of going in Aug. I am working in June and July, and I wouldn't really be able to get a sub so I think June is out. I guess I have to think fast. But I do make an extra $2000 over the summer. My only problem other than money is working in my visit to my mom, also in Aug or lat...

Funny thing happened on the way to Huntsville

I just recalled this. Funny thing. But I was in Atlanta and wearing the flight suit that I bought earlier (lucky hting too as it was way too long). Anyway, while in the airport I overheard several people talking about me. "She works for NASA." etc. Several people asked me what it was like ...

I couldn't remember her and probably wouldn't say her name if I did. But I had what I would consider not such a good counselor, or maybe she just found working with adults too difficult or not her cup of tea. I read here that people find being a counselor for adults a little hard. As the campers are...

In Houston, at the Space Educator's Conference (SEEC), they were actively recruiting among teachers. They usually are a bit older than most of the counselors at SC. So I thought that was interesting. But I have the kids (two cats and a dog). LOL! I'd be the first gramma space camp counselor. :-) --des

Yes, I am thanks. I also attended the Space Educator Conference (SEEC) this year in Houston. I found out you can rent out kits, for instance of space food or a glove (even a whole space suit though the shipping would be prohibitive). A lot of my ideas came off those pages. I also had the kids go on ...

Burning Question-- Does everybody land the shuttle?

Ok I was commander back when and we did the landing. I think it might have been the program Precision Assist which is an old program that was written by Binary Star (they do programs for musuems and so on). Anyway, I landed it. I got instructions re: put your nose up, etc. There was the inevitable h...

I'm doing a "camp" this summer at a local school. I probably am calling it Space Explorers or Space Adventures. You probably can't use the terms "Space Camp" or "Space Academy". Though I do know teachers that got permission to use the t-shirts or flight suits for their ...

As I said it was awhile ago so I don't remember. I have the old VHS tape (still plays btw) that was about 15 minutes long and was a little pitch for space camp. They had the Adult camp and the Educator camp on the tape. I went after that had been done. As I said, I may have an original (first adult ...

Yeah I'll look around, as I don't really recall exactly. However, I think it was in the late 70s- or early 80s sometime (AC did not exist when I went the first time). I went to AC a bit later than that, and it was only in it's first few years I think. I have some old photos I took, and I'll try and ...

I personally went to camp before 94. Not to say when, hehehe. But my nephew and I were goign to go to the Parent-Child camp after that. It never happened as something always came up. BTW, I'd think reading would be an issue. At the time I went the children's application recommended a reading level o...

This looks like an old thread, so don't mind if I just resurrect some of these. I'll try not to answer a three year old thread on 3 day Adult Space Camp. :-) Anyway I read this book when it first came out. Since I teach special ed. during the school year I tried to figure out what type of kids he wo...

An OLD Space Academy grad says "Hi"!

I have been lurking for several days and decided to come in and talk. I won't say just exactly how old I am, but I am probably and easily the oldest. I attended Space Academy for Adults (3 day) and Aviation Challenge (3 day). I could never go to the longer one due to the time of year it was offered....
