I know that returnees weren't as common but they have always had them. When I went there were a group of gals my age, and they had been to the adult (not the long one or anythng) session 6-7 times. They were working for ten I guess. I considered AC to be kind of a return. I know for some people it i...

Now there's a laugh!! I don't know that they had account numbers back then, and if they did I doubt that either of us (space camp) or I would know where it was. :-) I am going to try and work out the money thing this weekend, so I can sign up. THere was something on the cancellation and refund polic...

If you talk about this stuff as much as I do, he probably will feel like an alumnus. :-) In a college alumni weekend, you can bring a spouse, I'm sure they just never thought about it. --des This is probably a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway.. Do you need to be an alumni to register for the w...

Well I went to a conference where there were a lot of people who met online but didn't know each other in person. We put the online group and our login name. That worked pretty well, but if we did put up pictures you could get over the shock of seeing your grandmother at Space Camp. :-) (Oh gosh is ...

Thanks. It was a long time ago since I stayed there and as I recall it wasn't too comfy. If I stay there I would take polar fleece and my own pillow, and maybe a polar fleece throw I have. I am not too picky about my mattress but I hate to be cold. Yes, they were flexible. I don't know anyone sleepi...

Hey SpaceCanada, am I going to want to go to Space Camp after doing a space camp? I need to know before I fork over $$, otoh, I don't know if I can ever get too much space. :-) (going to Houston didn't make me less into it.) I still have to think about the money. Also is anyone staying in the Hab. I...

It's a team patch. Rather it's actually going to be a team sticker, I think. They get a 3 ring binder with space stuff, scripts, etc. and there is nothign on the back. I thought a team sticker would be great and a good first day, team building activity. I don't really have a patch but the t-shirts I...

I had (still probably have) relatives in Huntsville, so I visited the USSRC before. They used to have this repeating movie about Space Camp on these huge monitors. There weren't any adults in these pictures (not as cute I guess), but I still wanted to go. Even so I think the USSRC is an amazing muse...

Last night I accomplished a lot. I designed the t-shirt, which is a take off on this patch: http://www.spacetoys.com/products.php?cat=88&pg=2 (the first one on the page) I had to get rid of the black and white to do two colors (plus the background blue); I pulled a couple stars off. Even NASA co...

It's that special glazed look in your eye. They all know it and can tell a space nut immediately. I remember going past and seeing the rockets from the distance. That was thrilling. --des Warm weather... I wish... I want spring... My first memory was walking off the plane and someone wearing a USSRC...

Thanks. But what I really want to know is which do you think is the best (or several of the best) and why? An even better question is, which one(s) would tell kids the most about space exploration, esp the current program? (The kids are upper elementary and middle school age). Just the space ones, a...

>The SCUBA company should have their own insurance to cover the lessons. Their insurance should cover any other group that comes through, so why the school is concerned is beyond me. (Maybe things are different in Canada) Well they probably aren't as litignous. But still I think things are basically...

Informal space science education thread

I thought I'd start a thread for the three of us, and anybody who might be interested in dropping in and adding their two cents. I have been working at this camp/school for two years in the summer. They have a range of classes from juggling, arts, whiz bang science, Harry Potter, etc etc. I have had...

Great site. I'm hoping that among other things we can put some stuff online over the summer. It's somewhat a shame that I can't do this via a museum (maybe later?) so that income isn't a factor. However, all the kids that go are not wealthy, and we are thinking of a way for a pretty low income kid i...

Oh, ok! I know who you are. I probably will respond to the old email later, but I have kind of more pressing things to worry about, like what will I do with 5 classes of kids who read below a fourth grade level. I hate it when reality impinges on other fun stuff!!! I haven't done much planning. I ju...

That's the thing. You just have to relax and be yourself. Most adults who go are total space geeks so you should have that in common if you would work there practically free and with no benefits. :-) One advantage with adults is that you shouldn't have to worry about anybody running off or acting up...

First class tickets... there's an idea. Well the whole identity-flight suit thing reminded me of a song by the Smothers Brothers which I am sure all of you are too young for. Anyway, the song is to the tune of the Streets of Loredo, if you would know that... (no probably not. Oh well.) Anyway, "...

Perhaps you kind of "go thru the motions" what with the hydraulic base and all. You go thru the check list. I didn't feel that I was really landing it. I tried software at the Houston museum and it was MUCH harder. (I probably would have been able to do it if I had more practice.) I'll hav...

That's a scary idea!!!! (BTW, at the Space Educator conference, I heard a flight surgeon talk about health issues. He was quite embarrassed I could tell. He said something to the effect of, "well before now we had no serious mental health issues". That isn't quite true as I know that Buzz ...
