Re: Accomodation included?

So my simple question: Are Accomodations included in the price of ASA? Yes. Barring construction, renovations or anything else unusual, you will be assigned a room in Hab 1. These are rooms with seven bunks (two lower, five upper), a built in table and bench and lockers. They're pretty basic and si...

Re: Adult Week Long October 2016

Odd, I didn't get an option for a photo CD/USB/whatever when I signed up for Hoot Camp II... I'd for sure buy one if such an option existed! As I remember, the photo CD/whatever was on the same page as the clothing package, flight suit, airport transportation, team patch and any of the other extras...

Re: Adult Week Long October 2016

The designs are also scanned and included on the photo USBs weeklong trainees can purchase. (photos taken throughout the week by the crew trainers of each team's activities, then sold either through pre-purchase or available at graduation). This is another service handled by Trainee Services. We do...

Got to hear Moonwalker Charlie Duke Speak today

A couple of the technical associations where I work brought in Charlie Duke to give a lunchtime presentation today. He mostly spoke of being the lunar module pilot for Apollo 16 and his experiences on the moon. But included some stories of being in the astronaut corps, viewing the Apollo 13 movie pr...

Re: Adult Week Long October 2016

Okay, PK here on this forum confirmed that as well. I hadn't realized that they were done by the people on the teams. But how'd something that professional-looking get done at SC? Did someone bring a good laptop with them and have them done at the time? How'd they get printed up like what was seen ...

Re: Adult Week Long October 2016

There's the one that's designed by each team. That one you're familiar with. A physical patch is not made, but design will show up at various points late in the week. Hmm. I know from Hoot Camp 2015, they already had pre-printed designs for mission patches for signs and computer graphics in the mid...

Re: Adult Week Long October 2016

I saw from the signup that there's no patch design done within the teams and apparently they're pre-done by someone at the SC staff. Does anyone know who handles that? I'd love to volunteer my services to design one for my own team if they'd allow it... There are actually two mission patches. There...

Re: Adult Week Long October 2016

Yeah, they said that last year's Train With an Astronaut operated at a loss. And it was mentioned in the round table/feedback session afterwards that it was a little overcrowded (awesome, and amazing but rushed at times and exhausting) so I'm guessing they will scale some things back. I'd heard the...

Re: Adult Week Long October 2016

$1,699, same price as last year... I'll be curious to see the schedule and how it compares to last year. Ditto for the August at $1,349... Yeah, they said that last year's Train With an Astronaut operated at a loss. And it was mentioned in the round table/feedback session afterwards that it was a l...

Re: Difference Advanced Academy?

Vincent summed it up well. I've never done the weekend program, but I can speak for the current incarnation (or last fall's incarnation) of the week-long program. In a word, it's awesome! Four full days plus a half day on either end of pretty much non-stop activity. We did four one-hour shuttle miss...

Re: How do we get an Adult weeklong to happen?

I wonder if anyone from "Hoot Camp 2015" might be thinking of going in for this version in 2016? Some pals of mine went and while they had a great time, I got the impression they were worn out afterward. As I understood it, the days were long and while rewarding, they seemed to be tiring ...

Re: How do we get an Adult weeklong to happen?

I wonder if we can go to the Octoberfest going on at the Rocket Center? Depends on your team's schedule. At Adult ASA last year, my team did LDM (Long Duration Mission - the 12 hour one) on Thursday. So we didn't have the opportunity to do the Octoberfest. I heard that the other teams, who did LDM ...

Re: How do we get an Adult weeklong to happen?

It won't be on the site for a little while, I was told. But I was assured that they have that hard date for that week. I wonder why they're waiting to officially announce it and let people register for it. I'm pretty sure by this time last year a bunch of us were registered and some were already re...

The group is called "Adult Space Camp Adventure". It is a closed group but I think the admins are pretty good about adding people. Is there word if "Train with an astronaut" will be an option?

Re: Question from first time

For Mars missions: Public Affairs Officer (PAO) Seriously? A public relations officer ? 8O What manner of "public" do they deal with? It would be cool if they had spectators that interacted with a PAO for the people who are walking by the entrance to the training floor when a mission is r...

Re: Question from first time

Those are the positions I remember from my time at Adult ASA last October. But, the Mars/Moon mission positions may change as those simulations evolve. And some positions, usually in mission control, are combined if you don't have a full team. Personally, I enjoy being in mission control. I'm not a ...

Re: Germany meets Space Camp ;-)

http://www.lowemill.net/ is a neat area where many local artists display and sell their creations. Some offer classes. They also have concerts and an open air market some weekends. There are also some history museums, http://www.earlyworks.com/visitor-information/ which might be particularly intere...

Re: First timer!

I am going to Adult Space Camp 4 day program in September. I'm really excited and can't wait. What is the schedule like? Is there anything I should know before going? If I were to read a book or two before I go, what should they be? Any info u would like to share would be great! Thank you. Woo-hoo!...

Re: 2016

There's also word that they're working on another Adult ASA (6-day) train WITH an astronaut session for sometime in October. Should be announced, I think they said, in early-to-mid April.

Re: Space Camp Robotics

That's really cool. And it's exciting that they're putting more into the Mars mission and tying it in with the rest of the week's activities. At Adult ASA in October, the Orion mission felt just sorta tacked on at the end of the week, wasn't related to the shuttle missions and, in a lot of ways, the...
