She made it home safe and sound!! Thanks for the gifts ;) Next stop! OPF! Glad she made it home all safe and sound. And you're very welcome. Thanks for letting her come along on my adventure. I look forward to following SCB's continued adventures in going where we all wish we could...if only we had...

Great shots! we had met Chuck during our Area 51 stuff but he wasn't able to stay and help us out. He was nuts! :) Yep, and in a good way. He got more than a couple of the team to the top of the pamper pole when we didn't think we could do it (that group would include me). I think we only had four ...

Well, camp is over, how was the trip? Are there any more SCB photos or stories? People stories? Sorry for the delay in posting more after we got home. Life kinda got incredibly busy for a bit there. Seems to happen after I've been away. We didn't get too many pictures with SCB during the week. One ...

Re: Space Academy packing list - some questions

I like to pack really light, so I think you have a little overkill, but that's just me. I tried packing light once. I got snowed in on what was to be a weekend trip. Now I pack with "youth leader" mentality: everything I will most likely need as well as some other stuff that someone will ...

Ah the fun of being a yankee moving to the south. I've lived in the south for almost 14 years now and I'm still not used to the heat. I'm better off than I was, but it's still darn oppressive. I sometimes tell yankees that it's a lot like living up north. There's a couple of months when it's just no...

I have heard that the UAT is difficult to take pictures in, even with an underwater camera, and i assume that the plake (pool-lake) at AC wouldn't be the best. Fortunately, my underwater camera has a flash (it's an inexpensive point and shoot with a water proof housing). It works much better than a...

Space Academy packing list - some questions

So, I leave for Adult ASA this Saturday (going a day early so that I can go to church on Sunday morning before check-in) and I'm starting to work on my packing list. There are a few things that aren't on the "official" list that I know to bring, things like duct tape, backpack, water bottl...

Last night, Space Camp Barbie and I went up to church for the last Ultimate Frisbee game of our summer "season". SCB made some new friends after the game. Here she is with James http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z309/gt0163c/IMGP0026-1.jpg And then with Ben http://i190.photobucket.com/alb...

No problem uploading the images to your flickr account. If you want the full size pictures, let me know and I can email them. Last night, we did the back to school cookout and water balloon fight with the kids at church (I'm a volunteer youth leader). Here's SCB helping fill up the water balloons: h...

So, Space Camp Barbie (SCB) and I had fun on Friday. We started off with a ride on a Segway. A family that I'm friends with rented two Segway's for the day, in honor of the mom's birthday. Since they're all geeks of various kinds, and they know that I'm a geek, they let me borrow one of the Segways ...

Space Camp Barbie arrived in Texas yesterday all safe and sound. She's doing well and enjoying taking a bit of a break before heading to camp. We've got a few adventures planned before we head out. I'll try to post pictures.

Which is good....although I wouldn't have minded the rain.

I live in Fort Worth, when hurricanes in the Gulf make landfall, we usually just get rain and cooler temperatures a day or three later.

While I don't know for certain, I would think that there are two options. 1. Go with an alternate crew who is based in Florida. 2. Fly the Houston crew to Florida. I would think that option 2 would be the prefered solution. At that point, only the room is different (provided they have the ability to...

I went to Level I in the summer of 1989. The hab was open then, but the showers (even on the girls floor) didn't have any curtains or dividers. Everyone showered in their swim suits. We did pool time at UAH, building tetrahedrons and practicing getting into emergency rafts (both one and multi-person...

I chalk it up to being much younger then. I can't even make it to midnight anymore. I very distinctly remember one summer when after two or three weeks of 16+ hour shifts and very little sleep (take an additional hour to get up and ready before the campers and another hour after the campers go to b...

You should at least try and get her a badge to wear all week! :-P I will be home Friday, I'll pack her bag then and send her your way. She shouldn't get homesick. And don't let the one's in the gift shop fool you. She knows they're imposter's! They don't even have one of the patches on their flight...

Alabama is the only U.S. Space Camp currently running. However there are other, simliar programs. The Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas runs what seems to be a similiar program. http://www.cosmo.org/camps/ Their camps generally include a trip to either Johnson or Kennedy Space Center, location depen...

Not me, but that's an interesting thought.
Can I get Space Camp Barbie enrolled for Adult ASA when I go so that she can get a certificate at graduation? Anyone know who I should talk to about that one?
